Thanks guys! I got two at ICRBE for my first fly builds. The first one I do not remember the insert moving at all and that rod is done, fingers crossed!! Glued the second insert last night and will mount it to the blank tonight.

I have one that I'm getting ready to use in a build, do I need to epoxy the insert to the reel seat and when dry epoxy both to the blank or do I epoxy them to the blank at the same time? Thanks, Mick

I bought two NFC blanks at the show yesterday, an 8 and a 10 weight. I've never built a fly rod before and want to use single foot guides instead of snake guides. I'm going to order an Alps reel seat and Alps guides and was thinking about 20 and 16 TIMXN strippers with single foot casting/spinning guides but not sure of the size for the running guides, thinking about an 8 and the rest 6's. I am using this seat and making a custom grip. what is the best way to cut the EVA to match the contours of the seat, X-Acto? I have ordered a stock seat to use as a pattern. Thanks, Mick

I don't think it would be a good idea. If you just covered the thread and not the whole grip I think the epoxy would crack because the grip is flexible. I wouldn't coat the entire grip either, due to EVA being porous I believe you'd get millions of bubbles in the finish. But I wouldn't mainly because I do not like slick grips

try this on a scrap blank first, it's not hard but there is a learning curve. take some rod bond, pro glue or whatever epoxy you use to glue on grips and reel seats, tint that epoxy with the appropriate color of marbling pigment and mix it up. take a spatula or popcicle stick and build a "ramp" from the blank to the OD of the grip where a winding check would go. turn on your lathe an

I understand now, finally. but let me rephrase this; the vendor only has one size of these seats, size 17, and all the ones he has in stock at this time have the same inside diameter. I have ordered the seat and the blank and do not have either one in my possession. my customer wanted this blank and this seat. on the chance that the seat does not fit the blank in the location he desires...
