I'm looking for a 3 jaw chuck for my Rikon 70-100 lathe. Grizzly was the only one I could find to fit (1"x8TPI), looked online and they're not in stock so I called and they won't get any until January. I'm pretty sure I saw Rikons at the ICRBE so was hoping someone here can help me out. Can anyone give me other options?

corky, good luck!! seems the nfl has all the logo/trademark stuff on lock down. I looked and looked for a GB Packer rod I built. only thing I saw that could be helpful to you would be the fingernail decals they sell on practically every team site. my build was an inshore blank also and I thought the fingernail stickers would be too small. I ended up using a 3/8" hair ribbon wrapped ove

ok cool, I was gonna order 10 different color strips but since they're cut when ordered i'll narrow my color choices down. I think I need a few shade packs too. I have the picture you were asking for but I can't figure out how to upload it here. pics are on the NERBs facebook page

i have tried abalone veneer twice, the first time i followed the directions exactly and it cracked so bad that i removed it from the blank. yesterday i used the veneer that i got from Kevin Knox and followed his article in the magazine and it came out beautiful!!!! the only problems were caused by me doing something stupid. IN THE FUTURE THE ONLY ABALONE VENEER I BUY WILL BE FROM MR. KNOX

I do not have a photo yet but i'll try to get one tonight and post it. i'll probably just email it to you or put on the NERBs facebook page. while I got you, I posted here last week about colored epoxy between cork rings; I tried it and of course the "goo" squeezed out from between the cork rings. I know it will probably sand off but I wanna try some Billy Strips between the cork.

Thanks Billy, I did exactly that and surprisingly it came out pretty good. the only two problems I had was getting the background packed tight around the legs of the spider (the first pass of the background always had a gap beside the legs) and I guess my spacing was off because the background was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I never finished the background but i'm thinking it would

I want to try something other than diamonds and chevrons but I just can't get it through my thick skull !! I have read billy's book; I have read clemen's book; I have read eller's PDF. I have watched Patterson's video. I have learned tons from all of them and I think they are all excellent but I still have trouble with the basic terminology. I start my wraps with the rod's butt on my left.

I ran out of finish and when I got the "new" bottles out of the cabinet the hardener was yellow (or it could have been the resin). will this be clear when I mix it or should I throw it out? thanks, mick

the edges of the rod sticker peeled up on two of the last three rods I've built. I put on a thin finish of pro kote and let dry. then I apply the sticker and another layer of pro kote. as the rod turn on the dryer (9rpm) I can see edges of the sticker begin to lift up. I use the same process for the decal connection stickers I use and no problems. what am I doing wrong?

when using the colored paper, do I need to put any finish over it? seems like it could bleed when wet.

I am going to make my first cork grips. I would like to use colored glue/epoxy between the cork rings. will elmer's wood glue and food coloring work for this or do I need to use marbling pigment and epoxy? what kind of epoxy if I need to go that route? thanks, mick

I ordered two bent butt "kits" to build for myself. please forgive my ignorance but this is my first attempt and i'm not sure what the pieces are called. the "straight part" of the butt that screws onto the bent butt is only about three inches deep where the blank is inserted into it. this does not seem like enough surface area to me! is this normal? do I build a normal a

roger, i think you were replying to me (it's mick not mike). yes, yes and yes, sorta. rod rests, check; sitting on a bench, check (but not 100% level. the bench is actually a sheet of MDF sitting on two sawhorses so it sags); floor level, check. however, since blanks are tapered, if the top of the blank is level the axis of the blank will be pointed slighty skyward. especially the rod on the

i am having a terrible time getting a level finish also. reading this i think i found most of my mistakes. too much epoxy, too much fussing and trying to smooth it out. all of my limited practice has been done on the wrapper, i will try rotating by hand to start with next. a couple of questions i have after reading this thread... 1. when i level the rod/blank, i place a level on top of the

does anyone know where i can get one? it might be called different things in other parts of the country...basically, it's a handle, reel seat and a hollow blank that the line runs through and out the tip.

i have the AmTak power wrapped. i've bought some maidera thread and the spools are too long to get the tension device (spring) on. do they make longer screws for the carriage? do they make a carriage that will hold 4 spools? thanks, mick
