The 26 has the correct ID but the 26 OD is about 32 mm and That is where the problem is ,it's too big. I don't want to go past 30.8 on the OD. JP

This is a bit nuts but who knows. I'm looking for a size 24 dps reel seat that has an ID of 25 mm. I know the ID should be 24mm but maybe some company makes the ID a bit oversize. I need the OD to be the same as the 24. I could go to a 26 but the OD would be too large for my purpose. JP

Don the reel is ok. It does have the anti reverse. I'm going to stick with the Fuji plate seat. I'm also about 1/64+ away from the Fuji pipe dps from sliding over the butt. I don't think it's going to work however. the tube is appears too thin. JP

I just talked myself out of the reel seat. The rod I need it for is 24mm OD including shrink wrap. U K Hooks states I need a 26 mm ID reel seat. I looked up a Fuji 26 mm DPS and the OD is 32.8 mm. That's 2 mm's more than I mentioned in my last post. That's not gonna' work. You need a really big hand size for that to feel comfortable. Now if a seat had the OD of a # 24 and the ID of 26mm or even

Your correct Don, The reel seat with the 2 tightening nuts is terrible. It's 30 mm OD. and feels bulky. I think Penn makes it.

Does anyone use the moveable reel seat from U K Hooks?-How good is it and does it lock as well as claimed? I don't want to spend the money for just one item along with US price difference and vat and shipping charges just to be disappointed. Thanks JP

Finally solved the problem! I took a piece of 1"smooth charcoal blank. I figured the result would be more pronounced. I wrapped 2 inches of black nylon A and varied the thread tension from light to real tight and put a coat of CP on it. The thread produced gaps that you could not see unless you had a strong magnifier. I applied FC finish epoxy and let it cure. As I suspected the lines s

I'm back, I did my last test. I've had it. However I am leaning towards it being a thread tension problem. I used the same blk. nylon ,this time with CP and without CP-same flex coat lite build. The lines appeared just as before. This time I varied the tension on the threads from light to extremely tight. My best example of the lines showing up is that if you took a solid white blank and paint

I wrapped some just now without epoxy and the threads are black using the eyepiece . In answer to Bill -It's not done-out in the sun it can be seen clearly through the finish

Answer to your questions-1 the wraps were not burnished the packing was done from the edges just pushing the wraps together Nothing touched the main body of the wrap. 2-the condition is visible to the naked eye in the light- the eyepiece allows for extremely clear picture of the individual threads. The Flex Coat is dead clear so it wasn't a mix problem.

I just finished 3 one inch test wraps of black nylon(different mfgrs) on a black blank. Gudebrod and 2 others of which I won't mention as one is pure Cxxp. I made sure the wraps were packed tight and applied Flex coat to the threads using no CP. When cured I took a jewelers eyepiece and noticed individual threads intermittently had lost the black dye and the natural nylon color was showing thro

I just finished some butt wraps about 1/2 " wide using black nylon (no CP)-after the finish cured I noticed some of the individual thread bands had turned translucent to almost whiteish in color. The bands showed up enough through the wrap to ruin the job. I used a jewelers eyepiece and could see the bands packed correctly(no gaps). I checked the FC finish on the tin foil and it was perfectl

I was considering buying a FC slip clutch but the rod butt dia. is 1.00 and is also x flocked wrapped. The hole dia. in the clutch is too small to fit the rod. So what do you do to make it work?? Joe

Again I would like to thank Tom for his reply. I am not a rod builder by any stretch although I have built quite a few rods in the past for long distance casting and surf fishing. I have no equipment other than an old wooden hand rapper and a drying motor home made. I am a long distance surf fisherman and as such beautiful rods do not enter the picture. Rod action ,however does matter. I ne

I'm using fish hawk nylon core gold metallic A for the underwrap at which the ends will double as trim and for the overwrap, fish hawk black nylon D. The blank is matte black. What is the best way to finish the wraps so I don't run into a problem. IE: fading, darkening, bubbles ,bleeding, Metallic staying packed, Cp or no cp etc, etc,. I would appreciate a sequence to follow from someone who

I really never thought about it much ,but I am curious about why 2 pc surf rods have longer tip than butt sections as opposed to a 50/50 split. Maybe someone on this forum has the answer. Thanks.

I noticed longitudinal cracks along the male plug on the spigot joint. Why does this happen?

Tom, I'll give the wax a try but I really think i'm dealing with inferior material here. I own 6 surf rods, 2 of the spigot type and the rest tip over butt Not one of them slips. with this rod i never felt that slate to slate friction feeling when joining the two halves. It's always smooth with no bite unless i rub it down with alcohol and that only lasts for a short while. Oh, by the way I notice

Tom, I sanded the male end high spots and wound up with scratches about 1/64 or less apart ,completely around and evenly all the way up to the tip end. I took the rod out today .It's better but still slips a little. I marked the rod with a china marker and the slippage is about 1/4 " to the right of center Joe

Tom, Thanks for the help you gave me, I don't think there will be much sanding to do. I'l let you know how it turned out. Joe

Tom, I coated the male with lead pencil. The results from the tip end down to the butt end are apprx in 3rds. Tip end hardly disturbed with spiral marks barely noticible,Center 1/3 heavily disturbed with spiral marks .Butt end same as tip end, hardly disturbed, very slight spral marks Joe

I have a tip over butt conv.13 ft surf rod that slips at the ferrule after a few pendulum casts.I have checked the fit and there seems to be no looseness or wobble that I could detect. I've tried every way to join the 2 pcs, straight down and bayonet neither works. There is plenty of gap between male and female.Could it be the plug material causing the problem? I cleaned the plug with alcohol and
