Custom Marbling on split grip! This was my first attempt at this. Guides were done with metallic purple and neon green(Hulk theme!)

I did a Florida Gators themed rod with metallic blue prowrap on the guides. It came out pretty nice, but it was definitely hard to work with if you are hand wrapping. The backlash can be pretty nasty, and I noticed that the thread tended to lose some of its luster when trying to adjust any gaps in threads. I may have packed it a little too tight, so most likely user error on my part. BUT, when

Yeah, graphite seats will not work for the application I'm looking for. Was looking aluminum machined ones...What a bummer, as I had a great idea on a theme!

Does anyone make these? Tried searching the net, and haven't found anything. I have seen gimbals in this color, but no luck on the reel seats! -Mike

I think I just died a little inside! I was planning on trying to drive up there and meet ya'll, but work wouldn't allow it. I hope everyone has a blast over there. I think I would have went blind from sensory overload anyways :)

Yeah, that's exactly what I was curious about. It was labeled as an inshore rod, but I saw posts of people using 6-8oz sinkers on it for fluke fishing. Seems like it might be really good for freelining for smokers or dolphin.

Yeah, I'm excited to get my hands on it. Every google search has brought up people mentioning how great this rod is. Guess I won't know till I see it!

Thanks for the replies! I'm wondering if this rod might be a good candidate to try out a spiral wrap on? The rod has been shipped by my father, so i should be getting it shortly!

Hey guys, I just received this CBW658 blank from my father that he got through an estate sale. I mainly build custom inshore rods, but i was looking into starting to work on some other projects as well. I do often fish the keys in Islamorada, Fl so I could put it up for some use. What can I custom build this rod for(IE: species-wise, and build-wise?) I know Seeker blanks are the top of the lin

Yes Michael, that helps a lot! That was exactly what I had in mind, but I wanted some confirmation first before I started gluing together. Thanks, Mike

Hey guys, Just got my parts to build another rod for my close friend(present for him since we won our redfish/trout tourney.) And I ordered the new Mudhole inked series skull pattern reel seat, and it is going to look pretty neat on this white MHX jigging blank I ordered. The reel seat came in three different parts, the hood, inner grip piece--which is the skull picture, and the screw-lock

I just did an ohio state themed rod for a buddy with NCP red thread, and the color did change over the black blank. Any time you are wrapping over black, the color does seem to darken no matter what; however, when I did use my neon green over a different black blank, there was no color change at all. Red always seems to change in color for some reason. /stumped

Yeah, I got a few comments on my purple/neon-green hulk themed rod. They thought it was pretty cool! Made my buddy an OSU themed rod(Yuck!), and he loved fishing it in the tournament. I'm thinking about donating a few rods for the next tournament for additional prizes.

Tony, I'm assuming he is fishing at the skyway piers in Tampa, fl. You are talking about a 20 ft drop just to the surface of the water. If he is mackeral fishing there, most people are throwing spoons attached with a 1oz egg sinker to fling it really far out there. Usually it puts a high amount of stress on the rod tip. Now, I'm not sure if that's what he does, or if he is tossing out cut or

That sounds pretty accurate, Roger. Especially when I'm doing hundreds of casts, I'm sure that would kill my palm!

It's a spinning rod that is going to be matched with my penn battle 3000. I was thinking about adding in 2 1/2 in. cork fore/rear grips...Will this change the presentation too much? I got some extra cork laying around, so I guess I can toy with it. What do you guys think will look best? I just want to have the blank at my palm when jigging, so I can feel the extra sensitivity in it. If all el

So I got my White MHX blank in the mail, and I plan on doing a Fuji Skeleton reel seat setup on it. Going to have it completely minimalistic with just black thread and some black/silver marlbing, and I think it's going to look amazing. Anyways--And to the point! I have never done a skeleton reel seat before, and I was wondering if there is anything that I should do different with this setup? Do

Billy, Ok---Well, I don't think I was being out of line by asking a non-sequential question. I was never being outlandish in my posts, nor was I calling anyone out about the quality. I just stated a very simple question if this has happened to others or not; moreover, I did call and email them, and they said they would get back to me(which they did--promptly.) I just think people took some th

Guys, my intention was not to cause any problems! I just wanted to know if anyone has had this issue with the new blanks that came out. I know it's most likely just a "bad" blank out of the bunch, and I'm sure mudhole is going to take care of it(management was in a meeting). I was just curious if anyone has ever had that happen to them while splining,. or mildly doing a test flex on t

Chris: I will most definitely do so! Mudhole has been nothing but good to me, and I'm sure they will resolve the issue. I would never try to tarnish any business's name on this website! I just just merely stating what happened to me, and if it was a common issue--or not. I'm just glad this didn't happen after I epoxied the guides on and everything. Nothing would be worse than to give this ro

The blank snapped while splining the blank....Never had this happen, and I wasn't even applying heavy pressure with my splining mechanism. Has anyone had this happen to them before? I called mudhole, and they said they would get back to me.

To be honest, the only time I use those penns is for livebaiting. However, the new penn battles are very lightweight--I would highly recommend them. I've tried using the spinfishers and ssg's for tossing artificials, but the weight on them would cramp my hand after awhile and off-balance the rod.
