Funny that you mentioned the MX-72H, I'm placing an order for it this weekend. I'm partial to the M1 series myself as they tend to be lighter than the MBX. One of my favorite rods that i currently have is the MX-S72M built as a casting rod. I have an Alps Text-Touch seat with micro guides that are spiral wrapped. I use it for shakey heads and swear it's the most sensative rod that I've used.

Check out the Phenix Ultra MB and M1 series as well. I build most of my personal bass rods on these blanks. I'm not one to baby my equipment and have yet to have a problem with these blanks. With that said, I also have some Rainshadow and MHX blanks and they are great blanks.

I personally bass fish with 12" to 14" grips on my rods but i believe the typical 7' bass rod would be in the 10" to 12" range.

Thanks Jim for letting is know of the new product. Can imagine where'd this craft would be if the above mentality of "no new products" had always existed. People should keep in mind that their old "tried and true" products on their workbench were at one time the new revolutionary thing to hit the market.

I use mostly Batson and MHX blanks for my personal use but just finished a shakey head rod for myself on a Phenix MXS72-M. Absolutely amazing blank and extremely light. Used a Batson Textouch reel seat. Probably the best feeling soft plastic rod I have.

I can't comment on the AmTak guides, I'm sure they're fine, but I have the same blank in 8' with a mix of Fuji KR and K's in #4 rings. I throw swimbaits in the 4-6 oz range and have had zero problems.

I use a Batson SW967 with good results. It's mod - fast but that's how I like them.

Ive built several rods with all #4s noticed minimal difference. Just push your stripper guide a little more than usual.

I believe Lance at Swampland has them as well.

When using cork on a KDPS, do you guys use a winding check glued to the cork or not? The foregrip that I made has rubberized cork at the end. Being that I've never used a KDPS before, I'm just wondering how the cork will hold up over time without some protection.

A rod for heavy flipping in my opinión is not the best choice for throwing swimbaits with treble hooks. If this is the type he's planning on throwing, a true flipping stick is to unforgiving with this type bait. I have a BB1 for flipping, and a Phenix Ultra for single hook swimbaits but my go to swimbait rod for baits with treble hooks in the lure range specified is a Batson SW967.

I just built one on a SW967. Maybe not as light as you want but it does have a great parabolic bend, which to me is a must for swimbaits with treble hooks. It easily handles 4oz baits and I've thrown up to 6 oz.

What type of swimbait, hard bodied with trebled or soft body with a single hook? What weight swimbait are you building for?

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the USB -800 Classic? I've heard contradicting opinions on the lure ratings. One guy told me they were over rated, another said that the lure ratings were under rated. Just wanted opinions from some rod builders that have actually built on these blanks.

I'd never experienced it until this week when I moved from a room with wood floor to a carpeted room. Might be something to it?

Check out a Phenix Elixir 761. I just got one from Lance at Swampland. Might fit your needs.

I just purchased a Mudhole wrapper to go along with my old hand wrapper and no, you do not have to remove a belt to manually turn the rod in reverse.

Used some distilled vinegar then a little alcohol. Washed with water then let dry. Epoxy looks awful. Oh well, I've already stripped the entire area and am starting over. I've been building rods for several years now and this is my first real failure. Guess I was due one!

Just finished a Phenix rod in the Elixir series. I used a 7 1/2'. Might work for what you need. I was very impressed with this blank, very light and "crisp".

I just applied a decal on my first coat of epoxy and decided not to usr it. Of course, now there's a sticky residue left behind. What's the best way to remove this without worrying about fisheyes? Right now I'm thinking of a slight sanding with 1500 grit sandpaper. Any suggestions?

Swampland has a Castaway BB1 or BB2. One of these might be what your looking for. I snatched quite a few 8-9 pounders out of some extremely thick hydrilla with this blank.

Thanks for the replys. Bert, I'm in Covington so we're probably no more than 45 minutes apart. I would love to see that rod sometime. I build rods for Randall Kirkpatrick's High Power Herring swimbait. A friend of his saw his rod and wants one that'll throw 2-4 oz baits but still wants that crankbait parabolic bend, if that makes sense. Trying to stay away from glass since weight is somewhat

I'm looking to build a swimbait rod for a customer capable of handling hard bodied swimbaits in the 2-4 oz range (Spro BBZ 6" for example). His requirments are that he wants it to have a parabolic bend similar to a crankbait rod and that "it doesn't feel like fishing with a broomstick". After looking, I'm leaning toward the SW967. Has anyone built on this blank and would you thi

I've built many bass and inshore rods but that's as far as I've ever gone. I now have someone who wants an ultra light spinning rod which I cant find in any of my normal vendor's selections. The specs on the rod he wants to match are 7'6" UL, fast action, 2-8lb line rating and 1/16-1/4 oz lures. Also it must be a two piece. At this point I'm guessing a fly blank might be my best option b
