I too thought they were too similar in casting to justify the $20 difference in the guide train.

Tom, just curious. Did you set the guide spacing as listed on their site or did you use your own spacing? Also, how did the cast "feel" to you as compared to the NGC? Was either one noticeably smoother feeling in hour opinion? As you mentioned, I'm not trying to gain distance as there are much more important factors in my opinion. The weight taken off of the tip seems to me to be o

Guys, I'm not one to post a lot on here but visit daily. I'm in Orlando on a family vacation and couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to visit Mudhole. I met Ben Stein with Am Tackle and got to test cast a rod with the Microwave system. All I could say was Wow! While I don't really care about improving distance or accuracy, the effortless castability of the system was impressive. I've got a rod t

I'm in Covington. My wife doesn't really care about the techincal part of building a rod but she does like choosing the colors for the wraps!

Castaway BB2 Big Show from Swampland would be my choice. I have two with #4 micros and love them for flipping hydrilla mats.

Thanks, Ray. Thought I was going to get a Delta 46-460 this week but I' m having to replace a cam sensor on my truck this week. I'm sure that I'll go through a few hundred rings before I turn something worth putting on a rod but I guess I've got to start somewhere!

Has anyone heard from Lance since Issac? I heard Houma was hit pretty hard and haven't been able to get him since. Hope all is well.

Not to hi-jack the thread but does anyone have some links showing grips being turned. I'm purchasing a lathe as soon as I can find the right deal on one and have zero experience at turning cork/wood. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

The Batson CB is a great blank. I have 5 myself and build on this blank all of the time for others. Not sure about the St Croix but you won't go wrong with the Batson!

Does anyone have a Mitchell 300? I have a rod for someone with this reel but he lives 1.5 hrs away and I can't find one in a store close by. If someone could take some measurements so that I could set up this rod using the NGC, it would save a lot of time. I couldn't make this guy understand what measurements I need nor does he have a micrometer to get precise measurements.
Thanks,
Joel

Swampland, Get Bit and Utmost are all good. Lance at Swampland has always been more than willing to help with any questions.

I agree with with Thomas. No one out there is going give as good of service as you'll get from Lance and Swampland. I've never had the same help with selecting the right stuff as he's given.

I just finished two Rainshadow CB80's, one with "conventional" guides and the other with micros. While there was a slight increase in distance with the micros, the biggest advantage was the weight reduction. There was no longer a need for a counter balance weight. Combine the lack of this with the lighter guides, to me the difference was huge.

It's a 6 1/2' Rainshadow Mag Bass in a heavy action, can't remember the cat. number. It will have a U.S. reel mounted on a Tennessee handle.. This is upon request of the customer. He said he knows it's a strange build but that's what he uses for a shakey head. He said he fishes in fairly deep water and prefers the heavy for this. You know the saying, "the customer's always right!"

I'm starting a build on a 6 1/2 spinning rod with a wide (57 mm) spool. Multiplying 57mm by 27 equates to 60 inches if I did my math right. This puts the first running guide about 4 inches from the tip. With three stripping guides, this comes out to just four guides plus tip. Does this sound right or does the NGC just not apply in some cases. Thanks for the input.

The build will be for a baitcaster on a CB80H. It will be for a swimbait made by a friend of mine called a High Power Herring. I set out to do a spiral but after a conversation with Bill Stevens the other morning, he changed my mind for some very logical reasons. The rod will now be built with all number 4' s on top.

This may be a stupid question with a simple answer but here goes. When using micros, if the line touching the blank doesn't really matter, then what are you looking for when performing a static test? In my mind,if the line is touching the blank or even dropping below, it will not be flowing with the bend of the blank. I don't want to start a debate over line touching the blank, so I guess this
