Sorry for the newbie question here.....assuming there are no labels, how can I look at a finished rod or blank and know if it is fiberglass or graphite?
Thanks! Re: Identifying Fiberglass & Graphite

Tap with your finger nails and listen to the sound. Try this with a known fiberglass vrs a known graphite and notice the sound. From then on, you will know the difference. Re: Identifying Fiberglass & Graphite

Looking at the end, graphite blanks are black all the way thru and a smaller diameter per stiffness, glass uses a larger diameter to get the stiffness and they aren't black all the way thru, it is a finish over glass for the most part and a deep gloss black. Re: Identifying Fiberglass & Graphite

Right, just sand the butt end a little bit. If it's a carbon blank, the residue will be black. If glass, it'll be white.
