I have done some research on the web site but found no help. This is my first post so here it goes. I would like to make an 8' rod that is parabolic enough to get good casts with a 1 to 1/2 oz. lead head with a 5-6" plastic jig. I also want the rod to have enough backbone to pull bass out of kelp. I would like to match it with a Lexa 300. Thanks for your help.

Hi Dan,

I've found the best bet is making those two application separate - for example.

When I'm bomb casting 1.5oz hammer heads with MC swimbaits I want a nice 7'11-8' swimbait blank that has that parabolic action your talking about. But still has the backbone to bring in big lingcod or kelp bass.

However, when I'm plunkin the kelp I want something along the lines of a punching rod that I can get on them quick and not let them bury me in the kelp. For that I use a 7'6" punching blank.

Parabolic in the kelp is fine but what about when your in the thick stuff and the boat is drifting away from your fish?

I'll close with, I'm not a calico pro. Surely there is someone in your area who @#$%& more saltwater than I've fished on and I bow down to their awesomeness. This is just my opinion for what works for me.

Adam, do you have some suggestions on the blank selection. I clearly understand what your saying. One rod will not do both. Clearly I was thinking of longer casts because I fish on party boats. They avoid getting in to close to the kelp, too much hooked kelp and the number of people fishing live bait.
