A friend of mine just noticed a hairline crack in his wood reel seat. How can he prevent this crack from getting worse? Any ideas will be appreciated Thanks Re: Crack in reel seat

Maybe. You need to gently open the crack a hair and ease some cyanocrylite adhesive there. Clamp shut and then sand-polish or refinish. That may be all that's needed, but it really depends on why it cracked in the first place. Was it forced into place with a too small bore? Or did moisture do it?
If the bore was undersize, I might be tempted not to clamp it shut. Just apply the cyanocrylite and once dry, sand and finish it. ............. Re: Crack in reel seat

Tom is right on. If the bore is undersize the chances of it splitting in a different place are pretty good. Re: Crack in reel seat
