have had some snake guides groove and cut after many seasons. do any of you know of a brand or company that uses an ultrahard coating on their snake guides? is hard chrome the hardest available? are there differences in the types of chrome used?

The two best snake guides in my opinion are Snake Brand and REC Recoils. Both are highly resistant to wear.

I don't understand how fly line could groove or cut snake guides, but backing could. Still, one would have to fight a large number of strong fish way into the backing to groove a snake guide. I should be so lucky.
