Great Article!

New Rodmaker issue arrived today. While I can appreciate all the decorative stuff that goes on in custom rod building, my customers rarely ask for fancy wraps, weaves, marbling, feathers, etc., etc., etc. What they do ask me about is more hard core stuff like trimming blanks for certain applications, modifying seats and handles for more comfort or sensivity, etc. I guess this is what I call the "meat and potatoes" stuff. So the new issue has an article on how to actually make multi piece rod ferrules. I know it was touched in the O'Quinn repair article series but this new one is just off the hook. Step by step how to do it with great photos and measurements. It's not something I suggest to customers but if it has to be done here is the information to do it right!

I enjoy all the articles and ideas but its the technical stuff like this that puts Rodmaker over the top for me. You don't get it anywhere else. Sometimes its the non glamorous stuff that pays the bills.

Hi Ken,
The main aim for a fishing rod is to catch fish and the more effeciently it does that then the angler will get more enjoyment from the experience. Rodmaker has always had that in mind with the articles presented. Still nice to have a rod individualised so it is a "one off" as that can have a positive effect on the angler also.
I hope Tom can get an article on how Nuno Paulino has made those "fake" leaher grips for an upcoming issue as they are neat.

It's a PITA that us in Oz have to wait a long time before we get the magazine.
