Hello,
I have a 4-piece CTS Affinity MX 11-weight that I built up a couple years ago for a trip to Florida. I test cast the rod before I left and found the rod to be mushy and just felt overloaded with an 11-weight tarpon line. I put the rod away and hadn't tried it since. In any event, I started playing around with the rod with different lines. I put on an Airflo 9-weight intermediate striper line and the rod absolutely came alive. It is an absolute pleasure to cast with this line and will sure be getting some use now! I finally got around to getting the ERN for this rod and it turned out to be a 10.16 - explains why the #9 line works so well. Just wondering if the is "normal" for CTS blanks? At least the MX series. Anybody else checked out the ERN for their CTS rods? I would be interested in the results. Best Regards, Brian Re: CTS Affinity MX #11 CCS

Right, an ERN of 10.1 or 10.2 is going to have power enough to load easily and work with a 9-weight line at average to long distances. With an 11-weight line, however, you'd want to be making quick casts at short distances.
