trolling blank

What power and what action would you recommend in a blank used for trolling off the central Florida Atlantic coast - cobia, dorado, wahoo, sails, stuff like that?

This is just me, but I really prefer an almost "live bait" type rod even for trolling plugs. The light, soft tip allows you to see the action of the plug. You can get a good feel for what's going on down there by watching the rod tip movement.

I don't know exactly what you're trolling with, however, so I can't say that such a blank would be the absolute best for your particular application.

I'm a little farther down the coast but I often use live bait sticks for trolling ballyhoo and lighter feathers/plastics. My all purpose 30# outfit is a rainshadow rclb70ml with an avet lx loaded with 30# p-line. Fairly cheap and effective.

For high speed wahoo trolling you need a monster outfit. For sails under kites or on drifted live bait I like a lighter spinning outfit....15 class or so and upwards of 350 yards of line. But for an all around trolling outfit a quality lever drag with 30 pound test will do a lot of things.

I built a bottom rod for a friend on one of mudhole's e-glass blanks. A 7' xh cut down to 6.5 he often uses it trolling ballyhoo for dolphin and sailfish and absolutely loves it.

Hi Phil, I'm with Russell, the RCLB70ml is a great trolling blank for this part of the EC. I fish from Daytona south to Ft. Pierce. Match that blank up with turbo framed guides and you probably have the most popular trolling setup in florida. We have plenty of RCLB70ml's in stock and are glad to help anyway we can.

I'll go with Russ and the Rainshadow RCLB also. I built on 5 of them and the ml is a beast with a real nice tip action. Nice blank at a good price.

I wonder what you guys are seeing in terms of dolphin action. Last couple of years has been weird. Seems the fish are showing up later. They are smaller and running as loaners instead of male/female pairs. Average fish for me are down in the teens. A 30 pounder is a bragger and it has been forever since I have seen a real 60+ pound bull. I'm worried. Please tell me you guys up north aren't seeing the same trends.
