Surf Rod

I have built quite a few rods over the years boat rods and spinning rods but never did a Surf Rod. What would be a good length for the butt grip and the foregrip on a 10' Surf Rod?

That all depends on the user. About the best thing I could recommend to you at the moment, is to take the blank and go outside and just play around with it - grab it and go through some casting and retrieve motions. Now note where your hand/s are on the blank. Locate your reel seat to accommodate what you've just done naturally.

I'll second what Tom wrote, but will add one thing: when you get the reel seat in the right place, you should know it. You'll find a spot where the rod, both when cast and when retrieved, just feels right. That's where the reel seat goes.

I build surf rods for my self and some friends.
I usally put the bottom of my real seat about 29 inches from the bottom of the blank.
I use about 6 inches of grips on the butt end and at the bottom of the real seat and about 4 1/2 inches on the foregrip.
But before I put any thing on my blank, I wrap my but wrap then flex coat then put my grips on,
this way I don't have a cut off wrap on both ends this way it looks like a nice wrap coming out from under the grips.
If you would like I can upload a few pics of the surf rods I did or email them to you..

Thanks guys,
I really hadn't been wrapping long.
I started about 5 years ago still a pup at it.
Still trying to learn some of the other wraps like the fish and thunderbird or what ever its called..
