Okay guys, just curious. What does "spey" mean in regards to blanks, rod building, etc.? I see it mentioned frequently and I don't know if it's an acronym or what. Never heard the term here in the deep south but thought it would be a good thing to know in case I ever need one. Heck, I might need one right now and just don't know it.
Go ahead, let me have it. Re: Spey?

I just looked it up today, it's a monster two handed fly rod for whipping out oversized flies for salmon and such...I guess. Don't see many here in central Wisconsin. Re: Spey?

Spey is a style of casting. The rod does not have to be monster or big. I do use a spey rod for steelhead but I also use a 5wt for smallmouth as well. If you have any questions just shoot me an email I would be happy to help where I can. Spey makes up most of what I do.

It's mainly used in large rivers in the northwest for salmon and what the others have said ......... it's beginning to be used on the east coast for stripers on the surf ........... takes a special type of casting but you can get 200+ feet on a cast wothout a lot of back cast ............ check it out on you tube ..........
