How to remove a tuff but from a blank?

I have an old rod and I do not like the tuff butt. I want to put on Hypalon instead. But when I heat the butt its just melts. Should I use a dremel too and cut straight down then pry it off?

You will still have to clean the blank. It must be smooth

Split it straight down and then pop it open like a clam by inserting a screwdriver or chisel in the opening.
