I just got some AFTCO finish and tried it out on a rod. Seems to be pretty close to Threadmaster Light, not quite as thin, but about the same in pot life. My question is that it seems to take a lot longer to cure than TM Lt. Temp in my shop is pretty constant, so that is not a factor. Just wondering if the others that use this brand of finish have had the same experience? Seems to be equal in finish quality to the others that I have tried and is just as bubble free as the TM products. Thanks. Re: AFTCO Finish

Thats the downfall of Aftcote. It takes FOREVER to cure. Sometimes 2 days. I wouldn't use Aftcote int he winter and spring. Summertime, it still takes a while.

Bill,
I use lots of it and it really prefers warmer drying temps. At 80 degrees it's tack free in about four hours, three in 90 degrees... I now use a heated box in the winter, but used to just use a space heater in a closed room and it helped a ton. It'll still cure at 60 degrees, but as mentioned above will take a long time to dry. Even turning the rod on your dryer with a lightbulb near each guide for about an hour (doing them one by one) in a 50-60 degree room will dry it twice as fast as having it just sit there. Normally my shop is right around 70, plus or minus a few degrees either way. I guess I just need to have a bit more patience with AFTCO. It does look real nice when fully cured! Thanks guys. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
