Casting rod SF guides?

Okay, so I looked through the "Guides" CD and through numerous posts here and didn't find an answer. But first a little background. I'm looking to rebuild a MB783 casting rod, several of the guide rings are shot. What I'm looking to do is a revolver spiral. My question is can I use single guides for the running guides or even the transition guides. Or should I use all double foot guides?

Absolutely you can use single foot guides, the only time I ever use a double foot guide is for the first or stripper guide, and most of the time I don’t use them at all. One place you never want to use a double foot guide is for the bumper or transition guides, you want those to be as low and close to the blank as possible.

I rarely use DF guides.

Well that's what common sense told me that I could use SF. What do you guys "typically" use for guide sizes? I'll probably use 7's for the running, but this transition sizing is where I have some uncertainty.

A typical guide setup for me is a DF 6 or 8 a single 6 SF and the rest are 5 SF. Spiral wrapped either simple spiral or Revolver. My most used guides are Alconites.

It depends on how the rod is being handled.
We like to use a double foot for the stripper, then much smaller, usually sz 06 ring double foot for the transition(s) and first guide after,
then single foot fly guides or Micros to the end.
The double foot can handle being bumped or otherwise heavy handling better than single foot.
If you are always careful in the storing and handling, single foot all the way can indeed work well.

Best wishes,
