Curious I am building a split grip crankbait rod, and was thinking of adding some color just on the blank in the area between the butt and rear grip. Building on a Baston CB70M, and thought that a little color would look great in this area.. Would you reccomend this or another method. Also love that Carbon Fiber look on some rods, where can you get this? Any ideas or suggestions or instructions on how to paint the blank would be great. Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

there is a ton on painting blanks if you do a search. there is also quite a bit on carbon grips, but if you get the back issue of rodmaker you will learn how to do it. commit to a few before getting them right. Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

The area between the split grips is an awesome place to do a tiger wrap. Not the carbon fiber look you asked about but they look great IMHO Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

Paint- easy, works just about any paint and finish aplied over it, or Krylon Fusion or similar paint
Carbon fiber- More difficult without practice, I bet Mike or Vikki at Riley Rods would be happy to help Tiger Wrap- pretty easy if you research and do it right, also looks great Marble finish- also pretty easy with research and offers nearly unlimited color combos Also take a look at the electric decals here: [rodbuilding.org] An understated crosswrap might give you the look you want too. Lots of options Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

Why not put black carbon in that area and paint it with a tinted clear or candy color. I do this and paint over black carbon tinted red, green or blue what ever color you want. It's takes time in prep but it's worth the effort!! Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

Jay,
You can go the auto supply store and buy a sticker that has a carbon fiber inprint, put it in the section that you want and then epoxy over. I'm thinking in doing the same in a split grip but I have not got arround maybe soon. Luis Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

As Steve said there are LOTS of things you can do in the split to add color. The area is big enough for a waterslide collage too...

Would it be feesible to purchase a carbon fiber decal (that has UV prtectant) and apply this to the split grip area and then epoxy over it. Any idea of where to purchase? Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

Found some Carbon Fiber Vinyl Decals with high UV resistance made for cars exterior. DO you think this would be a solution? I could apply this to the blank in the split grip area and epoxy over this. Re: Painting a Blank or Carbon Fiber Wraps?

Can you apply epoxy over a Carbon Fiber Decal from an auto place? I am sure this is not a question that the company is asked often or if ever. I see most Carbin Fiber Vinyl decal only last 4 years outside, will the epoxy lengthen the life. Thinking of doing the same - just not sure if this will work and last Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
