Did a spinning rod set-up for my father for Xmas back in December. Had short time to get this done, figured as long as I had one good coating on the rod and it was fully dried I could bring it Xmas day for my pops to see. I took the road home with me as I figured the guides all needed a second coating, read most people do a couple thin coats. I havent re-coated the guide wraps since late december, can I still go back and add another coat? Rod has not been used or anything. What should I do? Re: Can I Re-Coat Wraps After a Month

First carefully scuff them and you should be set to go. Thanks, Chad Huderle Huderle Custom Rods Prior Lake, MN Re: Can I Re-Coat Wraps After a Month

I used a single coat of Flex Coat High Build on my guide wraps for this rod, it was a thin coat, do you think I need another coating (posted a picture on the photo's area Labeled Red Wrap). When coating the guide wraps do also coat the area beyond the wrap where the foot connects to blank. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/24/2010 03:21PM by Jay Burns. Scoff with a fine scotch pad. You can get this at any Home Depot. After scoffing, I wet a paper towel and wipe off to get the dust off. When coating I always go just a little over the threads and onto the blank just to keep water from going underneath the threads. Bill - willierods.com Re: Can I Re-Coat Wraps After a Month

What Bill said, a fine scotch pad is what I've used. Thanks, Chad Huderle Huderle Custom Rods Prior Lake, MN Re: Can I Re-Coat Wraps After a Month

You can scuff if you like, or not scuff if you like.
Many folks do one of each and have no difference in the results. Yes, a bit of tooth (from the scuffing) will give the epoxy a bit more to adhere to, but about 99% of the time you can refinish with out scuffing and have excellent results. Just be sure that the area where you are applying added finish is very clean. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
