Hello, how well does two-part 5 minute epoxy (Devcon) work when replaceing a guide for a quick fix ? I've heard it holds up well and works as well as longer cureing epoxies. Not expecting "professional" looking, but is it an option when time on a turner is not possible ? -Thanks Re: 5 minute epoxy for guides wraps ?

Clear fingernail polish is a BETTER answer! Borrow the wifes, add about 2 coats, done.
This is ONLY A QUICK FIX and not to be used as a "proper" technique! DR Re: 5 minute epoxy for guides wraps ?

Epoxy adhesive is not exactly the same as epoxy finish - they're both epoxies and have much in common, but have been formulated for entirely different tasks. The epoxy adhesives will not be nearly as clear and may tend to crack and check when used as a guide wrap coating.

Like the others , I wouldn't recommend it at all even for a quick fix. Clear fingernail polish is the best temporary quick fix. Devcon 5 minute epoxy is probably a 2000 psi epoxy and as Tom said , it will crack and check when the rod bends because of its strength and stiffness. If you need to fish the rod just put on 2 or 3 coats of CP ( assuming you are going to use CP ) and go for it. You can add the proper finish later. The guide won't come off. About ten years ago I "quick-fixed" a surf rod while on vacation - cut off broken guide, hand wound new guide
and coated with 5 minute epoxy. I haven't got around to re-fixing the quick fix yet. The 5-minute job is homely, lumpy, and yellowed, but it works. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
