Has anyone used Gudebrod olive green thread with or without CP on the Batson blue blanks?

Regards,

Vance

Without CP I think you will find that it darkens almost to the point of the thread color being indistiguishable from the blank.I did some test wraps on a grey blank and was very disappointed with the look.It darkened a lot more than I expected.

With CP I found the color to be a bit too bright for my tastes as well so I did a few more test wraps over a couple of underwraps, one silver and one gold, and then no CP on the olive thread.I REALLY liked the color and the subtle glow it had on each. The down side of course is the extra weight.

If I were to use this thread on a rod(and I plan on using it on a Dan Craft SIG V fly rod blank soon) I would either do metallic silver or gold thread underwraps and use single foot Recoil guides to minimize the effect of the extra under wraps,or find out exactly where my wraps will be and use a metallic silver or gold(or possibly white) paint of some sort as the underwrap.

I'm getting ready to use 521 on a ST. Croix Canteen Green fly blank. My plan was to go without CP. I was hoping for a translucent color that blended with the blank color. Do you think it would work?

Fran... This color looks superb with narrow gold trim bands on the CTS olive blanks ( I didn't use it myself but saw someone else's rod with this scheme...) I used this thread with CP on a matte gray blank as an accent color on black wraps... Actually looks pretty good. Your approach on the St. Croix blank sounds interesting. Eric and Tony - Thanks for your ideas, gents... Regards, Vance

I've used it with CP on a few rods from Forecast and CTS with the PacBay Deep Water Camo grips, used the blanks for the blue, black for the wraps and olive green trim to match the grips.
