Does anyone manufacture foul-proof titanium wire guides? I have found stainless steel and TiCh but would like solid titanium if possible. Will be used on a SW parabolic jigrod. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/11/2007 01:22PM by Ray Austin. Re: Titanium Wire guides

The sponsor on this board that deal primarily in titanium wire guides is REC. You should send them an email their contact us board and see if they have anything that will meet your needs. Fuji and AMTAC have various rings in titanium frame equipment. Re: Titanium Wire guides

REC's recoil guides are nickel titanium alloy.

Why? Titanium galls. Titanium's claim to fame is weight vs strength. It does not have high lubricity nor are most of them very hard. In a thread not too long ago, grooving of those very same recoils was brought up. Re: Titanium Wire guides

The Recoils are a Nickel Titanium alloy. Not titanium. I've found them very durable and have had no problems with grooving. They're extremely light and cast great.

[www.rodbuilding.org] is the thread I remember on this. Very recent. Yes,,, they will groove. Titanium is not magic... except perhaps for marketting Re: Titanium Wire guides

Not saying their magic. Just really good guides that are very light and very durable. I don't think I'd use them for heavy saltwater use or where braided lines will carry alot of dirt. And I don't use their tips. But, for med/light to med/heavy spinning situations, great guides. Re: Titanium Wire guides

Here in Hawaii some people make their own titanium wire guides and use them for extra heavy slide-baiting for huge jacks from rocky cliff and also shore areas. They have a jig which they coil the wire around several times and create feet on each end. These guides are used with mono from 60-100lb test. They are referred to as "Hilo' (he low) guides. I haven't seen them used for smaller applications but I'm sure they could be formed into the old style foulproof guides. It all depends on the application. Aloha. Re: Titanium Wire guides

Loomis uses them on the GLX and Cabelas on their top end rod. So, the Recoils does have mass acceptance in some corners.
On a side note: I wonder what these companies get the Recoils for at OEM pricing. must be a whole lot better than what we pay at retail. The profit margin on these Recoils has got to be incredible given their patent. The cost of the material is not that high given how little material is used.
