Is it possible to cut the FC arbors into 1" pieces and then evenly space them for the reel seat. I'll use a 17 seat approx 4 1/2" long is it ok to space 3 -1" arbors for the seat? I would first glue the arbors to the blank and the next day epoxy the seat to the arbors. Thanks for your help. Gary Re: flex coat arbors

I imagine you could to that, I've done it with the Pac Bay arbors, but why not use part of another arbor so the whole thing is filled? Re: flex coat arbors

Gary,
Sure you can do that. I know a couple of people that do it and never had any problems. I personally use the whole arbor under my seats but no reason not to do it your way. If weight is your concern I dont think there is any noticable difference in using the whole arbor as opposed to the 1" sections. I glue the arbor to the seat with 5 min. epoxy and let it dry, then ream out the arbor with the arbor bits and then glue to my blank. Hope this helps, Noel Re: flex coat arbors

I use blank exposed seats. Shape front end of rear cork to fit into seat and use onle one 1" Flexcoat arbor up front. Fit it all up where everthing slides in place. Prepare all surfaces with Scotch Brite pad and glue up everything at once with U40 Rod Bond.

I use a whole flexcoat arbor in a 18mm Pac bay seat.I had about a 3/8" gap on each end of the seat where the arbor is'nt as long as the seat.I filled in this area with RodBond. It might be a bit heavier this way but I'm sure its stronger. Re: flex coat arbors

I usually cut the arbor into 3 equal pieces and use two in the reel seat. The end is tucked in about 1/4 inch so there is a gap in the middle. I do not try to fill it is as it makes reaming very difficult. Did the same with graphite arbors and masking tape (yuck!). Never had a problem. The stiffness of the seat transfers the pressure. Never had a failure.
Go ahead. Be cheap like me. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
