If you mean ceramics, then you can say that they don't require the amount of maintainence that rollers do. Conversely, ceramics won't take the same hard knocks that rollers may be able to withstand.

Q: What's the advantage of using turbo guides on a boat rod?
A: Rugged frame. Toroid ring / less friction / better heat dissipation for long runs. Which brand, model / styles, frame / rings are you intending to compare? Depending on what type of "boat rod" you want to build, turbos may be "over-kill". A heavy-duty bottom rod and some trolling rod blanks may be very similar in many respects. But the bottom stick doesn't get many hot runs. Usually there's no way to stop a big gamefish's first run, and that's when smooth & cool count. If you are holding a bottom rod all day, you may appreciate a set of guides lighter than most turbos. ... 'Hope that helps. -Cliff Hall, Gainesville, FL- Re: turbo guides

I don't know if there is any difference in frame strength between a heavy duty U frame guide and the turbos. I use them because to me they just look better. As far as rings, I know Forecast carries both types of guides in two different materials. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
