Could someone give me a layout and guide size for a PB761MHF blank used for Pitching. It will be 60 120 180 Spiral Wrap.Or tell me how to do progressive spacing and figure guide size, Norman could I use the same size guides as my PB731 MXF rod. I went with 5KT & KB for the runners on that one Thank you.

I am building a hover/jigging/light bouncing rod for chinook on the Columbia with a Lamiglas SI 941 MH. I am going to spiral wrap this rod and am considering using a 10 or 8 MXN stripper and size 4 Alps fly guides for runners. I have a couple questions: 1. Am I crazy or will these little mini guides hold up to hot chinook? 2. How does one choose an "optimal" stripper siz

123. Test Cast
So I test casted my PB731MXF rod I am building for small crankbaits, Norman provided me with the guidetrane and layout and after thought I decided to go with the spiral wrap, which from this point on all my bass baitcasters will be. I also went with Normans suggestion 0f 60 120 180, after static testing with 2 line method I went to test cast ( Note to self: do not test cast with just the dental b

It's been a few years since I've built a rod, although prior to that, I'd roll up ~5 a year. I'm not at all familiar with most of the current blanks save for MHX, from I built a few 6wts a couple of years ago, so I'm looking for some recommendations. I recently organized my rod collection, and came across a rod that I built ~15 years ago, a Dan Craft 8'9" 4wt. I think was his Sig IV serie

Just read the article on Magic wands in my Rodmaker mag, great article. I owned and just sold 8 JB Customs rods that were all spiral wrapped, I must say I liked those and especially all the casting type baits, especially the crankbait rods. The Pitching rod was nice as well but you had to make sure the line was not layed over to the right side of the tip top ( I pitch with the bait in my left ha

Just static tested my Point Blank PB731MXF and everything looked good with 2 line test. My only question is should the line touch the top of the guide closest to the reel, Mine runs right through the center of the guide, line follows guide for the most part under tension, just wondering about that first guide or does that matter. It is 21" in front of the reel( from the line guide of the re

I’m currently building two inshore popping rods for my dad and one of his buddies. Both are M-MF rods. One is 7’1” and the other is 7’4”. I know my Dad uses 2500 series reels, and I’m pretty sure his friend does as well. He might use a 3000 but definitely not larger than that. I’ve seen some setups with the KL model guides and some with the KL-H. I built a 7’ M-XF wacky rig spinning rod for bass

I have a nice conventional muskie rod that I'm going to convert to spiral wrap for use as a heavy duty saltwater casting rod. The rod is a St. Croix 8 foot heavy moderate rod model PGM80HM which can handle 40-80 pound test line and 1-8 ounce lures. Guides from the tip are located #1 at 3.25", #2 at 7.25", #3 at 12.25", #4 at 18.25", #5 at 25.5", #6 at 24", #7 at 44&q

Hello all. First post here. Do you have a recommended length for the rear grip on a light rod (spiral wrap with conventional reel)? What about front? I was originally planning on keeping it the same as a live bait/slow trolling rod with aluminum gimbal > 10.5" hypalon > aluminum reel seat uplocking > 8" foregrip. I started tucking it under my arm and the rear seemed a litt

Can anyone give me a suggestion of guides to use and the measurements for the guide train for a Point Blank PB731MFX that i am going to build for a crankbait rod, want to use Fuji reduction system if possible. This will be a casting rod with a Lews BB1 reel and a Alps MVT reel seat, back of reel seat should be around 11-13 inches from butt of rod, so if anyone has the measurement I would need for

I am trying to decide on what action would be best for a saltwater trolling rod. What are the benefits of a fast action compared to a medium action rod for trolling? And vice versa. The rod will be 7' in the 15-30 lb range. I plan on useing 20# mono. They will be pulling small plugs, and small rigged ballyhoo, or small live bait. Also some kite fishing. Thanks for your thoughts and input.

So I'm at the point where I'm doing the static testing on a rod build. Rod is Point Blank 731MXF paired with Daiwa Ryoga 1060 casting reel. Right now I have 9 running guides (Fuji KW #5), and 3 reduction guides. The reduction guides are KWR#6 (stripper), #5.5 double foot, and #5.5 single foot. Being a newbie, I'm not sure what is acceptable line lay when the rod is flexed 90 degrees. When I d

While I'm waiting for my NFC MB736 XRay to come in, I'm trying to figure out the guide train. I haven't decided on whether I'll spiral wrap it or not, but I'm considering both options for now. I've read through more than a few posts on the forum, but haven't read much on using the newer KR concept guides for spiral wrapping. Here are the options that I'm debating... Reel Setup -30 lb Daiwa

While I'm waiting for my dropshot blank and components to come in, I'm searching for a good option for an all around casting blank. Here are the criteria I'm looking for, what I'll use it for, and the options I've found so far. Criteria -Light Build around 3.5 to 4oz total built -6'10" - 7'2" Length -Lure Range around 1/4oz - 1oz -Preferably a Slightly moderate side of Fast Acti

Been stuck in spinning rods here lately. Went back to building casting spiral wrap. Doing a simple with a bumper using the RV Fuji guide and it seems the first three are pretty spread out. More so than I recall but I was trying to get the choke guide to load properly and it looks okay now. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this? 20" from reel face then about 7-8" for bumper

First off, the rod is for lake Ontario, launching from Mexico Bay, obviously for kings.. The only times ive ever been salmon fishing was there with these guys.. And i cannot believe how much bend they put into the 2 interior rods alo

I recently started a new casting rod build and I can't wrap my head around the guide spacing for this blank; Point Blank 731MXF 7'3" I've completely redone my other rods and none of them have the line touching the blank under load. I used the same amount of guides on all my rods that range from 7' to 7'2". (11+Tip Top) KW8 > KW6 > KW 5.5 > KB5 x3 > KT5 x5 > TipT

I know a lot of guys use 3 or 4 guides to transition to the bottom of the blank but wasn't there another method that only used 1 small guide at a 90 from the stripper guide? Thanks Sam

Hi all, I'm looking for a blank which could be used for a Great Lakes spiral wrap float rod. So far this blank seems to be a good candidate: ST1262, 10'6", 4-8lb, 1/8-1/2oz., mod-fast action, medium light power. At the moment I am experimenting with spiral wrap rod built from a 11' 8 weight switch rod blank. It is okay, a bit more flexible than I expected and casting a float is more

I am preparing to build a couple of 130# Stand-Up tuna rods for a friend in NY. I understand that there was an authoritative article done in the past in RodMaker. Since that issue is no longer available, is there a way of getting a copy of that article? Tom...is that something that you could do? I would certainly appreciate it. Let me know the cost... Thanks! Greetigns fellow rod builders, I am looking for suggestions on a rod building project. I am starting to build a new medium weight ocean casting rod and am trying something different. Instead of hypalon or EVA foam rod grips, I have wrapped the lower 20 inches of the rod blank with cork tape (once going up, once going down the blank). The tape is being held to the blank with the adhesive on t

Hello, Recently I decided I wanted to redo my guide spacing on a medium power Bass rod I built when I first got into this hobby. It’s a Rainshadow Eternity 7’2 Medium blank with Fuji K torzite guides (11 + Tip-top). I did not follow the manufacturers guide spacing chart and used a Fuji guide spacing chart that came with my Fuji guide kit from Mudhole. Recently, after load testing the blank I

Well I pulled the trigger on a PB731MXF blank. I intend to build it as a casting rod, may use a reverse guide on the stripper guide. Has anyone build a casting rod on this blank? I know Fuji has a tutorial on guide placement, but just wondered if anyone with experience can weigh in.

Hello All I am new to the forum. I have built about 9 rods scince starting this hobby a couple of years a go. Ive built 5 rods for bass fishing using St.Croix blanks and the rest have been rod kits from MudHole. I am in the process of building a bass rod using a St. Croix 2SW76MHF (7'6" - MH). I plan on using Mico Guides on the blank. Called St.Croix and they said it would work but would no

On a smaller 6' Spiral Wrap rod, what is the probable size of the stripper and then size of the transition guides when 8lb test is the line to be used? Have not done one in a long time?

I’m looking at building a new rod for bottom bouncing walleye with a live bait lindy rig setup. Usually drift/troll anywhere from.8 to 1.5mph with either a 1 or 1 1/2 oz bouncer. I want to stay with a 1 piece 8’ blank. Has anyone used the popping style blanks for something like this? I’m thinking about the Rainshadow REVIP80M-SB. keep in mind I will not be casting with this rod

I'm brand new to rod building. So far I've made 4, and the components for my 5th one are on the way. I'm doing a flipping/pitching rod and I ordered the Microwave 12-6 guide set but now I'm wondering if those guides would be better on more of a traditional casting rod setup or if the microwave guide technology would actually be a good on a flip/pitch rod. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!
