My address is no longer hidden.
I just can't use a finish that I can't torch.

Mudhole's got them on their website. Custom tackle has them as well, just not on the website.

Anybody got them? I know I've seen them before but I can't find any in my catalogues.

Rainshadow SU 1509 for the big rod, it's 12'6" and will handle all you can throw with it. It's the best surf heaver on the market in my opinion. The blank will run you about $180. For the lighter stick, the Rainshadow SU 1266 would be a fine option. It's 10'6" and just a great all around rod for surf fishing. 2-5 oz is optimal for this one. If you want one kinda inbetween these tw

The blank was originally 3 pieces and 13 feet. I want to build a 10' to 10.5' out of it. The blank was cheap, but good quality, so I don't mind experimenting with it.
My question is the joint. Basically I have two options and I want to know which is more structurally sound.
Option one - Mount the reel seat on the far end of the butt section with the middle section extending through th

130. Rod Repair Question
This is going to be complicated, so bear with me. :)
I have a 3 piece graphite surf rod I'm experimenting with. Each section is a little over 4 feet long. The butt section has been cut from the forward end to shorten the over all length. Now I need to join the butt and middle sections. Planning on useing mesh tape / rod bond for the joint. Yes, it will be two piece then.

132. Re: 10.5 foot spiral
The four on the butt sounds excessive to me. I have an Allstar 1265, very moderate action, with only one guide on the butt section. I really can't imagine having more. I believe I ended up with 10 guides total.

Since it's a spining rod I would definately go ahead and build on the straightest axis.

135. Re: Tip Top Glue
This is why I like the new fuji mn tip tops. With these I use hot melt glue, & then wrap over. Tradidional tip tops I like the 5 minute stuff.

136. Re: 2-pc Spirol?
It won't turn, no worry. I've done big surf rods with only the stripper guide on the butt section.

Instead of alcohol, I spray the blank with WD-40. Gives you a slick surface to work with and still evaporates in time.

138. Re: Double wraping
No need for CP using metallics. No need to use size D thread.
1) Do your underwrap as normal with A thread.
2) Put a coat of finish on, then with a credit card scrape off all the finish you can as the rod is rotating.
3) Let dry for 24 hours
4) Wrap your guides on with a thread.
5) Finish the guide wraps only. Put it on heavy and let it soak in the tunnells good. Now take it

Several options here. The Breakaway 1509 (12'6"), Lamiglas GSB 150-2 (12'6"), and Purglass 400-4 (13'0") will all get the job done. They are all very different blanks suited for different casting styles. If he doesn't have a preference then the lami may be the best bet because it is a more forgiving blank to throw. I would not go over 13', 12'6" is max for most experienced

Scott, I just checked my 967. From reel seat to size 30 BYAG stripper guide is 24". Next guide is a size 20 BYAG, 8" in front of the stripper, then a size 12 BYAG that is 7.5" in front of the 20, then a size 8 BYAG 7" in front of the size 12. Then I have size 8 fly guides run out to the tip in decreasing intervals for a total of 10 guides including the top. The reel used w

The Rainshadow SW70MH would be ideal, and it's rather inexpensive.

Here's a pic of one Mike, needed another coat of epoxy before the pic. This is the rod that caught the big drum on the first cast. Wish I could put that kind of juju on all my rods! :)

I've used single foot guides for tip tops on some spinning rods (amtak needs to widen their range of tip tops) . One particular Rainshadow I built last year caught a ~50# red drum on the first cast, and several more the same day. I was worried at first too, but now I can sleep at night. :) Just wrap it on like any other guide. I've also taken "three leg" guides (NSG style) and be

146. Re: smooth butt info
I have put a short piece of EVA in front of the smooth butt to make a smoother transition to a smaller reel seat. Worked nicely, but easier to just use a larger reel seat.

" The original Clemens lathe was built by Andy Renzetti. The Renzetti Master Rod Lathe is the original. "
So are they the same? Is the Clemens not built by Renzeti now? Just curious is all.
Forum: rodboard 19 years ago
Clyde Roberts
OK, so two extra rod supports minimum.
Also, what's the difference between the Renzetti & the Clemens?
Forum: rodboard 19 years ago
Clyde Roberts
What extras would you get along with it? I'm thinking get the complete rod lathe package, an extra 3 ft bed extension, an extra rod support, the laser level, live tail stock, tail stock with chuck, & tool rest. anything else?
Santa is coming to town! :)

This isn't the best picture but the same general type of guide. I think these are RSG's if I remember correctly.
