34. Amtak Corrosion
Customer gave me this rod back this weekend. Two years of use and the frames are corroded beyond repair. I know this guy too, and he washes equipment after every use. I'm done with Amtak, back to Fuji for me.

This is the rod I asked everyone about cutting. The tip is inserted into the butt, handle is glued over the tip section. Notice how the reel seat is the same diameter as the butt section. Made for a nice, seamless transition. This will make a very nice plugging stick.

Looking for a Fuji Soft Touch Palming style reel seat. I can't find them listed anywhere. I know they make them because they are on the Shimano Trevela F Series jigging rods. Anybody know where I can get them?

I've been fishing three of the Mudhole blanks very hard this summer, and I'm very impressed with them. I did some trimming on them to shorten them up a little, 6 foot is just too long IMHO. 5'2" - 5'4" is more like it. For an economical blank, they perform great.

On matte blanks I use a pencil, gloss blanks get scratched with the corner of a razor blade.

Rainshadow SW 967 would be great for this application as well, it's what I use with the same reel/same application.

50. Re: Grouper rod
Billy - any problem trimming these blanks from the butt? Most everyone I know likes their jigging rods in the 5'2" - 5'6" range.

I use spinning gear alot for grouper fishing. Been using a Shimano Saragosa 8000 (33# of drag) lately with 55# Saltiga braid, on a shimano xxh jigging blank. It's put gags in the boat in the 25# range and many reds in the teens. I like to have a spinning and a conv set up so when one arm gets tired i can switch rods. Mudhole has some jigging blanks coming out later this month, the 400-500 gra

Anybody know if blanks are available for these? Specifically the 8'2" version? Did a search with no luck. If not, can you reccomend something comparable?

I've built a few surf shark rods with the same basic principal in mind, but I took a little different route than you did.
The blank used will need a 9 foot tip section. There are varoius models out there (Rainshadow 1509, several from Wheels Reels, etc). What I do is mount the reel seat on the very bottom of the tip section. Then I make two butts. One long for casting, one short with a gim

So I was haveing some problems getting used to Threadmaster. I have been useing Aftcote for the past couple of years almost exclusively, and if you've ever used it you know how thin it is. Well the Threadmaster just seemed way to thick to me, and I was haveing all kinds of troubles with bubbles and it setting up too quick etc, etc. This week I've been heating the Threadmaster in the microwave

The Rainshadow IP 965 is awesome with mirror lures! Tip is light enough to not pull the hooks, yet the blank has enough backbone to handle the stray striper or yearling drum that may come along.
