B&M had a warehouse center in Starkville Mississippi when I lived there but that was 15 yrs. ago. I used to visit it and bought several rods that I converted. You are correct about the components being cheap but the blanks were pretty good. I still have one rod that I built on their blank and it has handled every thing from stream trout to smallmouth and also one 16 lb. channel cat.

I have built combo rods for a couple of my friends that pack into high country lakes on horseback, I have been using 4 piece spin Batson spin blanks. These rods are not finesse rods in the fly mode but will work when needed. If you will reduce the lure wt to 16ths it will give a rough idea of the fly rod size. For instance a rod rated to throw a 3/8 oz lure is reduced to 6/16 and would throw a #6

If you sit down and read the company directions and follow those directions to the letter and do not add or subtract anything then you should have no problems, providing your application techniques are perfected by getting experience over time.

If you sit down and read the directions from the company and follow their directions to the letter, you will not have problems. That is if you also use proper application of the epoxy, this is accomplished with experience and is learned by finding which epoxy works best with your techniques and sticking with it.

My son just broke his American Tackle 5ft 6in AMSP661-2 rod. He wants to build a new one, Does anyone have suggestions for other blanks? He cold use a 1 or 2 piece blank but he would like the fastest and lightest rod that he can build. He' an avid trout spin fisherman and broke it after landing a nice 4-5 lb rainbow but informed me he did it and not the fish. Thanks in advance.

Instead of a razor blade I use a finger nail clipper tool, cuts clean and can control depth not to cut into the wraps.

I live a long way from salt water and it's been a lot of years since I've had to wrap a roller guide but I've been tasked to build 2 stand up rods. Would some of you all who build stand up rods help refresh my memory? The first or butt guide has 2 rollers, one roller is higher than the other one, so which way do the rollers face the tip? Does the lower one face the reel or does it face the ti

If you extend a multi piece rod then you have a butt section that is too long. This can be solved by building it like a bass flipping stick with the butt section telescoping into the next section.

I don't know which pat of the river you fish but I live on the upper part and fish the Iowa/Wisconsin border. I think glass is the right way to go in either spin or baitcasting. Using the technique you describe we also pick up walleye and small mouth.
