Guys, thanks for all of the information. Dan, based on your reply, I'd expect that the rod would weigh out in about the 8 wt range after it was all built. What kind of Action Angle did you find with the blank?

i read an article in Saltwater Sportsmen about a year and a half ago about using a fly rod blank for a spinning rod. It was written by Capt. Fred Everson in the Tampa Bay area. I liked the idea of having a really light and long rod to throw super light jig heads to stripers and flounder in the back bays here in NJ. So, I bought a 9' 7 wt Forecast blank from Neal's fishing for almost no money,

Guys, I'm trying to decide between two rods to build, and the money difference isn't that much. Rod #1 is a Thomas & Thomas Horizon blank, 9'6" 9wt 2-pc. I have never cast this rod, so I'm looking for opinions on those that have. Rod #2 is a Temple Fork TiCR 9' 8 wt 4-pc.. I have cast this rod once, and I really enjoyed it. Now, I know that opinions on how a rod casts are h

Guys, thank you for all of your replies. It looks like my blank was mislabeled. It happens. At least now I have a valid excuse to give my wife when I buy another blank and components to build my true "salty six weight".

I just measured my Rainshadow 9' 6wt 2-piece rod using the Common Cents system. I got the following results with this rod: ERN 4.45 (thirty-seven cents), and an AA of 58. Now, I just checked the SuperBob site, and I see another builder has entered data on the same blank (my rod is completed using single foot guides), but he received an ERN of 6.62 and an AA of 68. Could there be that much diff

i'm about to coat my wraps with flex coat high build. i usually do two thin coats, rather than one thick coat. in the past i've always done one quote, waited about an hour, and then applied the second. i read somewhere that this makes them cure together, and you get a better bond. is this fact or fiction? do you all let the first coat fully cure, and then apply the second, or do you do the fir

i've been wondering about the latest issue. i'm near Atlantic City, and i seem to receive my issue in the second week of the even numbered months. this month i have not yet received it, and i was getting worried. it would be nice if it showed up on friday, that way i could read it on the beach all day saturday. (it's a tough life, but somebody has to live it)

Last night i was trying to get my guides in the right spot along the blank so that i can do some test casting. After all was said and done, i think that i might have a problem, but i wanted to get your thoughts. i'm building a 8'6" spinning rod using the New Concept system that is written about in the Library section. The blank is a 9' Forecast 7 weight fly rod blank, that was cut 2&quo

Tyler, here is a link to a topic from December that spoke about this same issue. i actually bought my guides and handle today, and will start assembling my rod tomorrow. i'm using a forecast 9' 7wt blank, that i cut 2" off of the tip, and 4" off of the butt. i'm using the new concept system that is referenced in the "library" section of this website. my guides are 25, 2

I just bought a 9' 7weight Forecast blank from Neal at Neal's Fishing, and I wanted to get some opinions on thread color. I'm going to wrap this blank as a spinning rod, based on some ideas that I've been kicking around. The reel will be a Tica Libra 3000, which is silver for the most part, but with some gold accents. I really don't care if the reel matches the color of the rod, but I thought

Jackie, I read your posting from December about wanting to build a spinning rod on a fly rod blank. Did you ever do it? If so, how did it turn out? Here's the link for the original posting for anyone interested.

Jackie, did you ever build this rod? If so, how did it turn out? I found an article in the January issue of Saltwater Sportsman about this same issue, and then I went searching some more, and found a few more articles on the Florida Sportsmen website. They were all written by Capt. Fred Everson. He seems to use these kind of rods all of the time for snook and redfish in the Tampa area. I
