Guys, I'm trying to decide between two rods to build, and the money difference isn't that much.

Rod #1 is a Thomas & Thomas Horizon blank, 9'6" 9wt 2-pc. I have never cast this rod, so I'm looking for opinions on those that have.

Rod #2 is a Temple Fork TiCR 9' 8 wt 4-pc.. I have cast this rod once, and I really enjoyed it.

Now, I know that opinions on how a rod casts are highly subjective, but I'm asking anyway. The general consensus is that T&T makes some great rods, as does TFO. The money for both to purchase all components and build would be close (approx. $50 difference), so that's not really a factor. I do like an 8 wt, but the T&T is only available in a 9 wt., which would work since I'm trying to get rid of my current 9 wt now due to me hating it (it was a factory rod).

So, if you were me, and you like a moderate fast to fast action rod, what would you choose?

The T & T Horizons are my favorites in the T & T line. I don't think I'd exceed that length you've picked in a single hand rod if you do a lot of overhead casting ,as the longer rods I've used wear my shoulder and arm out much faster.

Don't be afraid of the TFO 8 wt. rating, as many find that the power is often slightly underrated with these rods and they excel when a slightly heavier line, say a 9 wt. in this case is used.

I recently purchased the T&T 9'6" 9 weight blank that you are considering. It is a beautiful dark blue blank, with a flawless T&T finish. I have not built the rod yet, because my preliminary Common Cents measurement put the blank in the low 8's, and I need a rod in the mid 9's. Can't tell you anything about the TFO.

Guys, thanks for all of the information. Dan, based on your reply, I'd expect that the rod would weigh out in about the 8 wt range after it was all built. What kind of Action Angle did you find with the blank?
