Another option is not to use mandrels at all and do your turnings between a dead center and a live center. I don't think I've used one is 7 or 8 years. I've made reel seat bushings from Duronze, Delrin, Aluminium and Corian off the top of my head on my wood lathe. Here's a real simple set of duronze that has a hole drilled through and a piece of Oak Dowel. On one end I use a #4 Cent

Hi Roger.... I'm no expert by any means but I personally consider any 3wt to be at the top end of Ultralight and while I like the 7' - 7'6" rods I don't think that would fit your list and think something in the 8' - 9' and a 4wt. Baston has some great prices on some of their blanks that are being discontinued and Get Bit Outdoors (don't know about any other of the sponsors) has some attra

You can do what I did for a motor for a lthe I need to fix ... check your local craigslist and find someone giving away a treadmill. They have DC varible speed motors. I got one for simply hauling it away.

Welcome to the slippery slope of aquiring tools. The lathe will be the cheapest part of your adventure. I'm not a fan of the Nova chucks because they use left-handed threads and since I crushed my right hand a year ago I can't twist in that direction. I have two (Grizzly Virmac Clones) scroll chucks and one 3-jaw I use frequently. I also have a set of ER-32 Collets which are nice but f

Not a casting resin per se ... 'a water clear reactive polymer' is probably a better descriped as a "Bar Top" type of finish and I got my small pint can from Hobby Lobby for $10 or so.

Don't know if this qualifies but off the top of my head. Bark Feathers in reels seats Enviro Tex Lite - a water clear reactive polymer compound. Waterborne polyurethane top coat

Lots of questions about a single thing. I found a package of three Pacbay's UL5 skeletons. The dimensions I found on their site make absolutely zero sense to this visually challenged individual as I need pictures for this brain to comprehend what the eyes are looking at so have any of you turned any of these that can shed some light on this?. I am recovering from a computer crash and lost all my files. I had a pattern for making 4 piece rod bags that was lost. The wife just bought some lovely 'pink' fleece to make a bag for the Casting For Recovery rod I'm doing and wants to have a part in this by making it. Anyone know off the top of their head where such a pattern can be found?
