For what it's worth, I read an article sometime ago that there is no scientific reason putting Madeira thread in the epoxy should eliminate fish eyes. They did a number of test wrap with thread in the epoxy and no thread in the epoxy and there was no significant difference in the results. Have always wanted to do the experiment myself but have never gotten around to it.

I use a small butane torch made by BernzOmatic that i bought at one of the big box stores. Works great. It's hard to explain, but it has a feature that produces heat without the actual flame being directed at the wrap or epoxy. i have never had a problem with soot or too much heat. As others have said, I use a rotating mixer and if I apply heat I keep the torch moving.

Thanks for the info guys. Learn something everyday. I didn't know that you cold get the motor to turn in the direction you want simply by turning it in that direction.

I have an American Tackle Power Wrapper with a Pac Bay Deluxe Chuck that I have used for 4-5 years. I only build 3-4 rods a years so it hasn't seen a lot of use. (1) My first question is whether the drying motor is designed to turn in either direction, clockwise or counter clockwise? It seems to be the luck of the draw when I turn the drying motor on which direction it will turn. (2)

It must have been the original because it was very thin. The problem wasn't really the drips, it was so thin that I could not use it for marbling. All the colors just ran together and merged into a very ugly color.

I was recently doing some practice marbling so I was using up old epoxy that I had. I had 2 small bottles of LS Supreme that I bought a long time ago and never opened. When I mixed the epoxy it became very thin almost like water. Even using a very small amount it would drip from the rod. I checked and double checked to make sure I had mixed the right amounts. Even mixed a second batch with th

Does Aftcote dry slower then most epoxies? I painted some dowels and then put epoxy on them to practice wraps, marbling etc. I ran out of the Thread Master I was using so I used some Aftcote (never opened) that was given to me a couple years ago. The Thread Master dried fine over night but the Aftcote is still somewhat tacky. Just wondering if it takes Aftcote longer to cure.

I'm thinking about trying Madeira thread. I went to their website and was totally overwhelmed. They list several different thread types, rayon, polyneon, frosted matt, metallics and even fire resistant thread. There appears to be 2 main sizes, #60 and #40 although there are some that come in #35, #30, & #20. My question is , "what type and size is generally used for rod wrapping. A

You could also fill & sand the foregrip smooth, then cover it with heat shrink. The heat shrink should slip over the guides down onto the foregrip without having to remove them.

To answer you question, I had a short arbor that just covered the opening in the reel seat. If I remember correctly, I used tape to make an arbor at the rear of the reel seat and a short piece of arbor material on the front of the reel seat..

I just finished installing one. I fit the arbor to the blank then glued the arbor in place inside the reel seat. (I figured it would be a lot easier to clean up any excess glue/epoxy from the reel seat before it was mounted on the rod.) Once the arbor had dried inside the reel seat I just slide it on and epoxied it in place. Not sure if this is the correct way to install the arbors but worked

I recently ran across an advertisement for the Flex Coat Dec. Wrap Alignment Jig. I have not seen one before or heard any discussion of it's use. Does anyone use it? It it helpful in laying out decorative wraps. Just looking for some opinions before I spend the cash to buy one.

I would appreciate it if you could also send me a copy of their article on applying decals. For some reason I can not access the Technical Support Area of their website. Thank you

TThanks for all the info. I think I have it figured out. Going to dry fit everything then bound everything to the reel seat then when set bound to rod.

Makes sense, just means I'll have to figure out what to use as additional arbors at each end of the reel seat since I won't be able to use tape. Thanks for the info.

I'm building a rod with a Fuji PTS Low Profile Casting Reel Seat and a carbon fiber insert to fit it. The reel seat has open areas on the top and bottom where you can see the insert. (Hope that makes sense). Normally I would mount arbors or make tape arbors, put rod bound on them and slide the handle in place. Wipe any excess rod bound off and I'm done. My problem is how to glue up the reel se

I asked the company and they said, "As long as it goes in a couple inches it is OK. So I guess I'm good to go. BTW: the 3 3/4 inches was based on the advertised length of the rod 6"5". It measures about 6' 61/2" now. Thanks for the responses.

The ferrules are not metal. They are the same material as the blank. I got the 3 3/4 inches measuring the reinforced parts of the male and female ferrules. Thanks for all the suggestions. I plan on working with it a little more and if I don't have any success I will contact Black Hole..

How tight should the ferrule fit on a two piece rod? I have a 2 piece carbon fiber blank made by Black Hole that fits together very tightly. The male ferrule goes into the female ferrule about 2 inches with a little bit of force. It should go about 3 3/4 inches to be seated correctly. It is so tight I am afraid to force it any further. Is this normal? Will it loosen up if I keep pushing it a l

Try a triple surgeons knot or learn to tie the FG knot. The FG seems complicated at first but once you learn to tie it it is relatively easy to tie. Lots of tutorials for the FG on line.

I'm building a slow pitch jigging rod on a Black Hole 662HMF. I will probably be using Fuji MNSG 2 footed guides. I'm planning on doing an underwrap with size A thread. Is this a good idea? How much will this effect the action and weight of the rod?

I'll have the reel in my hands tomorrow but I have been told the reel seat needs to be 17 mm or larger. Thanks for the info.

I'm building a slow pitch jigging rod on a Black Hole Cape Cod Special 662 HMF. It is 6"5", rated for 15 - 40 lb test and weighs 3.2 oz. I'm planning on building it as a casting rod with an acid/spiral wrap. It will be paired with the new Daiwa Saltiga star drag conventional SASD 15N reel. When I initially posted I forgot to ask about the reel seat. From researching slow pitch rods

How do you get the line to the interior of the rod ? Is there a special guide (not sure if that would be the right word) that you use to make the transition to the inside of the blank? I have wanted to make a sabiki rod but I didn't know the components were available.
