I'm sorry, I made a mistake in my previous post. I meant to refer to the American Tackle thread carriage not the one Roger posted. I just can't wrap my head around how the thread is supposed to be routed on this thread carriage.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but have a question about the thread carriage that Roger posted a picture of. Does anyone have a diagram or information on how the thread should be configured on this carriage to get proper tension on the thread. I can never get it adjusted to work properly for me. I have another carriage that holds two spools horizontally that has threaded spindles to tension

Are any issues created if you mix thread sizes in a guide wrap. For example: using size A for the main color with size D for the trim band or vice versa?

Look on line for Trim Bands or Thread inlays. There are lots of different examples of how to do them. Look in the Library, I think there may also be an article or two in there on trim bands.

Thanks, that's what I thought but wanted to have someone verify what I was thinking.

How long after EVA grips are installed on a rod can you safely start to shape them?

38. Re: Spiral wrap
Thanks for the responses. My first inclination was to put the (very slight) curve up but I thought I read somewhere there was a reason to turn it down. Up it will be.

If I build a spiral wrap on the straightest axis, which way should the slight curve be positioned, up or down?

I am going to use white for trim bands on my next build. I have never used white thread before. Is there a particular white thread that most builders use or prefer?

I have seen instructions for 2 methods of installing shrink wrap on grips. One installing the wrap over the grip before installing the grip on the rod and the other, just the opposite, installing the grip on the rod then putting the shrink wrap on the grip. I have not used shrink wrap too often but when I have I used the latter method without any issues.
I am just curious how most people p

Any suggestions on what metallic thread is easiest to work with and produces good results?

I purchased an American Tackle Power Wrapper several years ago. It works great for my needs. The only issue I run into is the alignment of the track sections. Sometimes they are just off enough to cause the thread carriage to hang up. This is frustrating at times, especially when I have a good rhythm going and have to stop because the carriage is "stuck" where the section meet.. Do

Ditto on your e-mail address. Don't feel bad, I've posted things that have been removed also.

47. Fade Wraps
I am interested in doing a fade wrap but my problem is that I have not actually seen many rods that have a fade wrap. I have researched on line but haven't really found answers to some of the questions I have. So I figured why reinvent the wheel, hoping that with the wealth of knowledge available here I might have some of my questions answered.
How are fade wraps typically used? Are they use

I haven't really found a replacement that I like as well as Gudebrod for colored thread. However, for Black, I have used the Bullard Black ever since they introduced it. In my opinion, it is the blackest black you can find. I think (hope) it is still available from someone out there.

50. Re: Epoxy Issues
Without more information it is hard to identify the problem. How are you measuring and mixing your epoxy. I use an electric mixer and wouldn't do without it. Are you using a dryer or hand turning the rod to dry? Some builders may have good luck hand drying but I would not do a rod without a dryer. How many coats of epoxy are you using? I tend to use 2 or 3 lighter coats rather then one heav

I bought a Black Diamond Hyprid, PHD 760X2H from Black Hole to build a slow pitch rod.. I'm used to using heavier saltwater rods but I can't image using anything much lighter.

Tom, you are correct, I contacted Trondak and they no longer make U-40 Ferrule Lube. If I understood them correctly, the Renzetti Ferrule Lube is the same product Trondak used to make.
Randy, maybe I was using the wrong terminology. The rod in question is built as you describe, the tip section slides into the top of the butt section. I thought this was still considered a ferrule. Either way

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll try going with the "taking it apart at the end of the day" suggestion. Seems the most sensible for now.

57. Stuck Ferrule
A two piece graphite rod I built has an extremely tight ferule. I was cleaning the rod last night after using it in saltwater and it took me nearly an hour of tugging & pulling and trying to twist & turn the rod to get it apart. I'm afraid if it continues to stay this tight I'm going to break a guide of the rod itself trying to get it apart. Any suggestion on what I can do? Are there an

what type of glue are you using? I use hot melt adhesive. If there is any excess I just let it cool down and it just pops off with a little pressure.
