Removable gimbal installed on existing rod

What I thought was a one time thing has become a regular one with my best customer whom I've been building rods for since 1990. He drift fishes for Flounder [Fluke] and has now started having me adding a removable gimble to his light casting and spinning rods. These rods are all tubular graphite with the blank going all the way to the end with a vinal butt cap. I cut the recessed circle out of the butt cap and use a scrap piece of blank that has a tight fit to go into the rod blank about 4 to 6 inches with enough of the scrap left out to install a nylon gimble on. When he wants to use the rod in the rod holder he pushes the gimbal shaft into the butt, lines up the gimbal slots and the rod stays straight in the holder, if he doesn't need it the gimbal stays in the tackle box. A metal ferrule could also be used with the female end glued in the rod blank. Jesse

perhaps you can do some sort of screw on? Maybe different types of ends that screw onto the end of the rod and are interchangable

Jesse,
That is a great idea! I guess that if you put the gimbal on in such a way that the scrap blank couln't be shoved in far enough to split the rod blank. I would worry about that if it were some of the people that I fish with. Thanks for sharing it.
