Brian Im sure you know more about this than I but I recentlt asked this same question and most advised me to use the correct tube size and be content with the smallest ring I could find for that tube.

Chad it goes 90-100 degrees halfway between butt guide and 1st 180 per the article in rodmaker. It suggestad if the rod flexed considerably down the blank into the butt to put it more toward 100 degrees.

What frame style is low but heavier than a BLNAG.That is what my doubles are but the frames look very flimsy.I may just change them all if I can find some I like better.Im using BLAGs for my singles and BLNAGs for the doubles. What about that 12 for butt, double foot 8s for bumper and 1st 180 and single 7s to the tip? Will those blag 7s be ok?This is a pretty serious catfish rig, bigger fish very li

Im about ready to wrap my first simple spiral.Butt guide is a double 12.Bumper and 1st 180 were intended to be double 10s but after taping up and looking at it a #8 double with a low frame sure looks better for the bumper. My question is ,is it ok to use that smaller guide between a 12 and a 10?My 1st 180 is that double 10 followed by 2 single 8s and on out with single 7s.My fingers are too big an

100. Re: Guide confusion
Thanks fellows.Ithink Im straight now.For all practical purposes that I should be concerned about as far as rodbuilding goes I can safely assume a size 8 or whatever size guide or top will be in close enough proximity to assume they will work together and be close enough to 8mm to not worry about it.Im not building a space shuttle ,just wanted to be sure I wasnt missing something. Thanks again for

102. Guide confusion

I think Ive got up enough courage to try a little decorative wrap.My question is if I mark my axis all the way down the handle or wherever I put my spiral wont I be able to see that mark?Im only going to make a few spirals up and down.Should I just make tiny marks where my threads will cross instead of a full length mark?

Bill my blank is a mudhole SPSWB7H.It shows a #12 tip.It will be spiraled for freshwater catfishing. My running guides are going to be #6s and I wanted my tip top to be close to that.Isee now thats not the way its done so Ill do what DR did and get the right tube size and smallest ring for that size tube.Am I on the right track now? Thanks much for all help.

Billy I had also considered that but being new to this I didnt want to do something stupid if there was a better way .Everything Ive gathered seems to want a tip ring the same size as smallest guide ring.I thought surely Im not the first to run into this.I wanted it to be custom built and not look ''homade''.

Tom is that what most do on a spiral wrap rod when I assume often times the guides out the tip are smaller and on heavier blanks? Thanks for the quick response.

108. Thread Sealer
Do all thread sealers darken and dull color?I am using chromaseal and it looks a lot darker and dull over dark blue gudebrod cp nylon with white ncp trim thread. Will it look different after I finish it or not?It looks awful right now. What will happen if I dont use sealer? This is on guide wraps.

Getting ready to build 1st rod.All info I've gathered varies on underwraps.Should a freshwater medium to heavy rod be underwrapped or is it a matter of preference? Will be used in rodholder with minimum casting involved, with double foot guides. With single foot guides is there a procedure to follow when making the transition from top of guide down to blank to cover area beneath the guide ring.I see
