124. Heated Ice Rods
So as ice fishing season quickly approaches i decided to play around will i idea I've been milling around.
Here is the problem im running into. Cork is made to insulate temperature. with this being said its hard to get the heat to transfer through the cork and make a "warm feeling to the grip". Im looking at any ideas as to a grip material to use other than cork. I was thinking e

Thanks for all the input. I normaly warm the bottles before i mix the 2 parts together. I just seem to have a bit more trouble with the last few guides because the finish is cooling down and seems to be thicker. I guess i just need to work more on my speed to get to those last guides quicker. Each wrap seems to take about 1 min for me to do. so for example with 7 double foot guides its over 1

127. Hot Plate and Finish
Has anyone ever used a hot plate to place your finish on to help keep it warm allowing the finish to "thin out". I seem to have better luck with a thin finish as was thinking this might help keep it thin while its being applied.

Was looking to purchase a foam carbon skinned grip set. I need a 2" rear butt and a 2 1/2" rear grip to fit inside a american tackle aero seat. These will be use for a split grip spinning rod. I want to try these types of grips out to see if i like them before i invest the time and money into learning to make my own. If anyone has some laying around or willing to turn a set for me t

He wants 8'6" rods for trolling. Was think about RDR86M

136. Re: Spin/Fly UL

With that being said i already have a 7" st croix ul with a tennesse handle..... i should just give that a go as a fly rod. since im new to the fly side of things, any recomendations on line weight?

137. Spin/Fly UL
Was looking to build a light fly/spinnig rod for myself. It will be used for panfish and maybe some small bass. I was thinking about useing a 4 or 5 wt 8ft fly blank... My question is about the guides and the grip. Are you better to set up the guides as a spinning rod or a fly rod. I know it wont be "perfect" for either situation but looking for a happy middle. My main concern is

142. Re: New Work Area
Thanks for all the input. The ceilings are slanted witch is the only down fall to the workspace. I was going to use overhead PVC tubes for blank storage. The only other problem is that the upstairs is about 10 degrees colder then the rest of the house.. Do you think a dryer box would work better then a space heater?

144. New Work Area
So I talked the wife into allowing me to convert the upstairs in a rod room. The space is 8 x 16. How would you seasoned pros layout the ultimate work area? Any "dusty" tasks will still be done in the garage so it will be just for wrapping, finishing, and assembly.

I was looking to do it the other way using the recoils as the running, but now that i think about it your way makes more sense because the larger guides are the ones that get damaged more often.

Building a smallmouth rod from the lamiglas "popping" series842, cutting the 7' down to 6'6" or 6'9". Customer wants a micro setup but would like me to use recoil guides for the durability. Has anyone gone down this road before? My thought was to use the recoils just for the running guides and using TiC for the tip and butt guides because of the height. He would perfer all
