I figured out what I did wrong. Dummy me, I mixed one part fc high build finish and one part flex coat rod epoxy....Guess that's what I get for working on it when I'm tired. I cleaned it all off with acetone and let it dry and then I added a "real" coat of finish...everything looks good so far. Thanks for all the help guys.

62. Finish disaster
Ok, So I built my father a catfish rod for his birthday and I put a coat of Flexcoat Hi build finish on it last night. Somewhere I must of messed up, because 12 hours later it's still not cured. It's pretty much still a liquid. What do I do? I've searched the older posts but I couldn't really find an answer. Should I let it set longer or should I try to clean it off the guides? If I were going to

63. Cork Question
I've made 5 rods now but I've only used EVA handles. I'm wanting to use cork on my next one. The problem is I don't have a clue on what to look for. All the cork I've found has an OD of 1.2 or somewhere around there. The rod I'm getting ready to build has a butt diameter of .925 . What would you guys suggest?

Went out fishing with a buddy today and surprisingly enough, we got into a bunch of channel cats, which was awesome because the whole purpose of me going was to try and break in my new rod. The rod handled awesome. I'm sure my opinion is a little biased, but I think it may be the best rod I've ever fished with for catfish. I just want to say thanks for all the help and encouragement that you guys

Also, I was wondering how do you guys keep your epoxy even on the top and bottom of the wraps? Do you tape them off to get them straight, or just free hand them?

I was just wondering if anyone in or near Missouri was planning on going to the Expo. I'd love to go, but I would hate to make the trip alone. I'd be more than willing to buy half of the gas on the trip.

I start by wrapping the thread over the blank twice, then I cross the thread over itself and rotate the blank until it crosses itself again. Then I complete 5 or 6 wraps over the tag end before I cut it. I put my tie off loop in about 5 or 6 wraps before I'm done. There were a few times when my tie off loop broke off before I got the tag end through....bet that was my problem. what do you guys

Ok, now that I've got my first rod done I've noticed that some of my wraps have come loose around the ends. What causes this? Is it just a matter of too little tension? Because they all looked tight before I put my epoxy on. Just wondering. Thanks for the help guys.

So I finished my first ever rod this evening. I'm sure its not the prettiest first rod built, but I'm fairly pleased with it. I used a mud hole Value E-glass blank. 7ft XH with a simple spiral wrap. I know one thing for sure, this hobby has already cost me a small fortune (in relative terms to me) and I've already ordered a bunch of other crap. Thanks for all the info and input I got from you guy

Bob also helped me out the other day. I called with a couple of questions and Bob spent about 40 minutes or so explaining some things to me. I will definitely give him my business when I can.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season!

Ok.....so I got the handle assembled on one rod....things went pretty smoothly.....until I started on the second rod. On the second rod my rear grip got stuck about 4 inches from where it should have. I tried everything I possibly could to get it to go down or come back off. No such luck. Now I have a predicament. I've got roughly 4 inches of blank sticking out from my handle.....what can I do? P

75. Newbie question
I'm getting ready to start building my first rod here in the next little bit. I was wondering, when it comes to putting the rear handle, reel seat, and foregrip on, can you do it all at once, or do you have to wait a few hours between each?

Hey guys, thank you for all the helpful info. I ended up ordering 3 rods from Mudhole and I talked to Lance from Swampland Tackle today...I'm going to order 4 or 5 more rods from him tomorrow, Do you guys know of anywhere I could find out some more information on Decorative butt wraps? Thanks again for all the help.

I'm an absolute newbie, and I was wondering the best place to buy blanks and other supplies off the net. I've purchased some things off of mudhole.com. Does anyone else order from them, and if so what do you think of their stuff. Thanks for the info, and I look forward to your input.
