completed my first rod!

So I finished my first ever rod this evening. I'm sure its not the prettiest first rod built, but I'm fairly pleased with it. I used a mud hole Value E-glass blank. 7ft XH with a simple spiral wrap. I know one thing for sure, this hobby has already cost me a small fortune (in relative terms to me) and I've already ordered a bunch of other crap. Thanks for all the info and input I got from you guys.

Congratulations Jon. It only gets better from here, or maybe worse depending on your perspective. The good news is everything gets easier and you rods will look better and better each time you build one. The bad news is you'll be building more rods than you'll ever need and the blanks will get more expensive for sure.

Congratulations on finishing your first rod. You are now well on your way to your 10th rod, you only need to figure out what rods 2 thru 9 are going to be. It sure is fun isn't it? It neat to see the rapid improvement made as more rods are completed. Good luck, have fun.

Congrats. As already stated, there is no turning back now. No store bought rod will ever be good enough now!

I bet it's prettier than you give credit for too! Don't let the works of others define you Jon and don't be to
hard on yourself either. NOW GO GET A FISH with it!

Jon,

You are part of the brotherhood now.

Just wait until you catch your first fish on that rod and you'll feel really pleased.

Keep it fun!!!

Congrats Jon!
I am a newbie to rod building myself. I don't post a lot..but i read and search this board constantly and my Rodmaker Magazines are like encyclopedias for me now days. Thanks to Tom and everyone that makes this board and the magazine available to us all!
I am a bit intimidated by some of the rods I see being built. So far i have just concentrated on setting up a rod that will be the best "fishing" rod in my rack. I have rebuilt a couple of old fiberglass rods and only 2 from scratch..one 7' for flounder...and an 11' surf rod. While i fret over every flaw that only i know is there...I have gotten quite a few compliments on the rods. I keep them simple right now..My motto is make them to go ..not to show..:) but i am working on techniques for making my rods more decorative for my next builds.
Now that i am over freting over what i did wrong..the rods that i built ..especially the 11 footer..is by far the sweetest rods that i have ever owned..
Needless to say..I am hooked and i will be in Highpoint for the Expo this year!
ENJOY!.Tony

I put up a pic of my work under guide wraps. Let me know what you think.
