Does anyone know if anyone carries a gold frame 6 or 7 single foot gold fly guide? I am looking to replace one on a rod and I cannot seem to locate any. The one I am replacing has more of a black colored insert.

Is there something I am missing about getting the motor from my rod lathe apart to try and replace the brushes. I take the nuts off the screws and it starts to slide apart, but then sticks. Not sure if there is something else I need to do to get it apart.

When I have done all micros on a baitcasting rod, the first guide works best for me starting somewhere around the 28-30" range. This is using the blank from Swampland that is 8 foot long.

Joe,
Make sure you take a look at that link, it will really make a difference in using the rod.

The split ACS seat is suppose to be available here to use sometime soon. It was originally said sometime in December, but that was not definate. I one time modified an ACS seat, taking out the middle section under the seat. When it came to installing the seat. I tinted the Rod Bond black and let it fill in the gaps around the exposed section of the ribs. You really didn't notice things at all

There are several out there that will not cost you much. But for bass fishing, would need to know more on how you are planning on using the rod. Bass fishing rods are so specific to different technigues, it is hard to pick just one for doing everything.

The only reelseats I have had to repair were either with tape bushings or cardboard bushings. I know if things are sealed well with the epoxy, they should be just fine. bit if water does get inside, they will not last.

You might want to talk with the guys at Swampland and the Castaway blanks. They got some blanks thats all I will use for my own crankbait rods and I suggest them to whoever is looking for a crankbait rod. Its the 963, 964 and 965 XP3 blanks. And build it all with micro guides, you will love it.

189. Re: Coloring PG
Tinting PG is not a problem, just do not use too much pigment. Also it will be translucent, you will not be able to get PG to be opaque.

The J is there for all of them. The L stands for low frame, meaning a 8JL has an overall lower height than an 8J.

Not sure of the size of threaded rod you are using, but you would want to use one that is close to the size blank. You ream the rings to fit the threaded rod, then do your glue up. You can also use a candle to coat your mandrel first. Then when you remove the handle from the mandrel, you finish ream it to fit the blank.

With the bands I am using and removing them before I wrap, I am not having to cut them off. I just end up re-using them for the next rod.

I found out the best thing to use is nothing at all. I start a few wraps of thread. Then I slip the tip of the guide foot under the next wrap of thread. I do grind just the very tip of the guide foot just enough to make it easy for the thread to grab it. Then I do a few more wraps of thread. After that I wiggle the guide just enough to get it to move and the tip of the guide foot will slip u

Joe,
If you want light weight, I would suggest the Castaway reelseat you can get from Swampland instead of the minima seats. These are much lighter in my opinion then the minima seats.

You really didn't change the height of the guide at all by putting an underwrap on. So I don't see how it could affect the line flow.

It will work, but you might want to look at the New Guide Concept for spinning rods in the library here.

You can lay out the guides the same way if you want, or you can let the blank tell you how many and their locations. Using static deflection which you can read about in the library, it will help you figure out things for the guides. I would also take a look at the new guide concept in the library for more ideas on guide setup. If you go to using more and smaller guides, I think you would see b

The blanks really don't need to be finished. I know some like the gloss look over the no finish look. PG is so thin though that when I have used it to refinish a rod, it had really no effect on the final rod.

If you are trying to do it on the photo page, you also must select a category for the photo to go in to.

There are systems that mount on your bench with a grinder that are not too expesnive. If you look at Woodcraft and such you should be able to find them.

You may find out on a blank you need more guides, you never know till you do the testing.

The peel and stick decals that Decal Connection has now are so much better. They are very thin and also are applied like vinyl decals, where you have a backing, the decal and a cover sheet. You pull off the backing and apply the decal to its location and then peel away the cover sheet. You never get any finger prints on the decal any more.

I use to use the Flex Coat wrapper and I found that I had to clean the disks the thread goes between. I was having the same problems. Besides cleaning them, I used a metal polish on the disks and it seemed to help.

Some have moved the first guide 10 degrees or so opposite of the spiral to make the line go onto the spool evenly. Myself I do mostly leave it at 0 degrees, I have not had issues where the line bunches up to one side of the spool.

I have not changed anything for position just becuase I am using smaller guides. I have been using the simple spiral more and more lately. There is not need to bring the guide closer, but I have know guys to do that for a flipping rod. I adjust my first guide a bit off the 0 degree postion but I let the line flow more determin just how much.

If they are wrapped correctly, you should not have any problems casting. I use the rings for lure skirts to hold the guides while testing.

What I have been using a long time for my testing. But I don't use anything to hold micros on. Have a way to do it and not use anything to hold them on.

You really do not need all those sizes. I would look at like the 25, 16, 8 then 6 the rest of the way out to the tip. Look at the library for the new guide concept.
Personally I would stay away from the BUNAG style guide, I have never had much luck with them myself.
