I have been searching all over the place trying to find a tutorial on how to do an epoxy ramp, I seem to remember seeing one in the past but cannot seem to find it for the life of me know. Thanks for any help. James

If rod building hadn't already melted the majority of my credit cards I would be more than happy to order a bunch of extra stuff and have an inventory so that I would not have to wait for an order anytime I get a new project idea. I would also buy in bulk to save money, but alas, you must have that initial bulk of cash to save cash in the future. Thanks, I think that i will have to do a search on

Wow, as complicated as that sounds I used to be really heavy into chemistry back in high school and I realize that that is a very real option except what element would I electroplate on to make it look halographic? And that would have been an aweful lot of work and more expense than the cost of just a new tip top which is all that I needed. Thanks for your opinion. James

Ok I don't really have a questione as much as just wanted to let you guys know of a problem I ran up against and let you know how I fixed it. I would appreciate any comments about the practice and whether or not you have a better way of accomplishing the following. When I made my first order for components as I was just getting started I bought some clearence guide sets from mudhole. The sets

Even though I am still pretty new at building rods, I think that I have found my best area in painting of the blanks and reel seats. I have several methods for painting blanks, there is one that I have in mind for a beginner like him. If you want me to explain in detail, e-mail me and also let me know if he plans on just painting it one solid color or plans on doing something artistic. I look for

I really wish my high school or even my college had a club like your guys's. I applaud you for taking on conservation activities as well especially since such things are made so time and resource consuming by the beurocracy. Pretty awesome, keep up the good work and maybe word will spread and other high schools will start similar clubs. James

I am still fairly new to this as well and believe me when you ask about blank selection their is usually no shortage of great advice. I personally have bought quite a few blanks finding sales here and there and for the money lamiglas and rainshadow blanks are pretty nice. Custom tackle has a sale on some nice rainshadow blanks and if you ask for Bob he will take awesome care of your order and ans

Good to know, I had a feeling but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I guess I will keep working on this style with cork and wood and see what I can make happen . Great help as always. James

Thanks everyone, I think I have what I need, I have a feeling that this will take me a while to pick up but at least it should be easier on the hands than holding tension on size A thead. lol James

I have done a search of the past posts and have not found what I am looking for. I have always liked art done with 550 cord and the cord wrapped grips or handles are no exception especially with the monkey fist type knots. I have no idea where to start in learning how to do this. Obviously I would prefer any online article if anybody knows of one, but if not, is there a book or something that som

This is probably a pretty weir question but I remember a post on here saying something about being able to get EVA material that can be melted and poured into a builders custom shape. I was wondering if anybody knows if I can just buy some cheap EVA grips and melt them down and pour them into a mold I am making. I am trying to build that bareback handle that has really caught my attention I have

I would have given my left *** to have been able to attend. It will be the very definition of a greek tragedy if you do not put this on again next year. I have already started plans and saving for next year. Thank you for taking so many pictures for us unfortunates that were left behind. Thanks. James

I think that the ribbon looking stuff is 1/8" flat braid, the flat braid is sold in many colors in several sizes by several suppliers, but I cannot remember anywhere offhand as I have not yet gotten the courage to try such things. The purple beneath the ribbon could be thread with purple tinted epoxy put over the top, once it was dry then wrapped a very open diamond type pattern over the fin

Thanks, I think that you are right. I know that the American Tackle Titan Ringlock series are amazing, but i was going for super light and I thought that the minima guides might be lighter, but I guess that the Titan's might be the best choice. Thanks for your help. James

I plan on trying the pac bay minima reel seat of the casting variety on an upcoming project for a customer but, I am trying to decide between some wicked american tackle guides and the pac bay minima guides that I have seen advertised in Rodmaker Magazine, but I cannot find anybody that sells them. Are they even available yet? Does anyone know where I can get them or when they will be available?

Actually the mudhole cork filler, even though the pic says cork filler, they send golden oak wood filler, so they must produce their own image for the website. I think that you are better off getting the wood filler in the can because the stuff in the tube from mudhole is not as wet as I am used to being a wood worker. James

I have tried that method of getting a jig under a low hanging tree once, but mostly I used to do it with at lead egg sinker tied at the end and give my brother a welt that would make him jump out of the boat. lol James

I have never heard of what you guys are talking about so I don't even know what it looks like. But I am intruiged. Does anyone have a picture of a wrap like that that you could direct me to, I have been through every single picture on the picture page and since I don't understand the above wrap I don't know if there was one in the photo library. Thanks for your help. James

Steve, I was hoping that it would be as light if not lighter, but I think that I ruined any chance of that by putting on a few good coats of finish. I really wish I had weighed it before and after. The few places that I have found the stuff it was just so expensive that when I found it for this cheap I could not pass it up, worth some experimenting anyways. Thanks for your input everyone. James

I just finished planning a rod Nascar rod from my a member of my family that is obsessed with nascar. I made the minimal investment into decals and now I print out my own waterslide decals and they look awesome. I did the number, the chevy decal, and the drivers name, and the sponsor's name with the sponsors colors as the color scheme. I am not worried about copywrite issues as I am not selling t

I will definately weigh it, I had not done so yet, but it felt pretty light compared to the same length of cork. As far as the foam and carbon fiber skin, I just recently found out about them and I will be getting some from a supplier, Riley Rods, after the expo. James

Actually, it is the same tubing as the batson stuff, just on closeout. The bushings that I am getting to finish off the ends and stuff are the ones that batson sells with their tubing. I don't plan on using it as a Tennessee handle, instead it is just going to be a super lite full length casting grip. And thanks, I think that I will go ahead and use the spray finish on it. James

I just bought some bulk graphite tubing that looks kind of like carbon fiber from Jann's Netcraft. My main concern is the finish, it is not smooth, am I supposed to or can I put some sort of finish like permagloss or a lite coat of threadmaster lite. Maybe spray the grip with a coat of the same finish that I use on my blanks. I also wonder if anybody has used this stuff before and what they th

Chuck, obviously a chance of a free one at the show would be nice, but if you have to buy one custom tackle supply has a deal on their pac bay wrapper normally 329.00 on weekly special for 229.00. I really really want to buy it but have to move some couch cushions to make it happen. lol James

I know that I have tried this a couple of months ago but I am trying to get in touch with anybody in the Colorado Springs/ Pueblo/ Denver/ Limon Colorado area that is going to the expo. I cannot go and have a favor to ask of someone in my area that is going. I have only been able to get in touch with two rod builders in my general area and neither of them are able to go either. I would really app

Greg, has a very good point and I should have mentioned that. It is for that reason that you should not be sanding and watching tv or trying to sand in a hurry, you need to be very gently. The only reason I sand my blanks before I paint them when scuffing them will work, is because paint weighs more than you think and so I try to leave as little on the blank because as we all know weight is the e

Ryan, What I do is sand the entire blank down and then rub down with a 3M scuff pad then wipe down with denatured alcohol. Next the paint that you need is duricolor which is sold at checkers and auto zones. It is an automotive paint which has excellent UV and flex protection, it is expensive but it is great quality. Once you do one, two coats max, you need to use the clear coat of the same bran
