I was thinking mudhole had them as well. but I know there is at least one sponsor that does, I was going through and saw it monday. But I cannot remember for the life of me which it was.

Start with a heavier grit like maybe a 150 and increase the grit as you get closer to the blank. Smooth it off with 150, then go to a 220 and when you get it about half off, switch to a 400, then when you have spots that your sand paper is touching the blank change to a 600 or 800 grit. If you finish with a 400 or higher grit you will most likely not damage the blank unless it is a thin walled

75 a piece if they are in separate cases that are long, and that sounds about right. If he is carrying them all in one case it won't be that much to put them on the plane with him. I used to carry skis around and they charged me 25 extra to check them but times have changed and it costs more. I would imagine whoever he asked assumed he meant 4 separate containers.

I like this topic, I have a friend that is wanting one of these and have been curious as to what others did. I was intending to use a Tennessee grip.

I have had all of my fly rods WAY past 90 degrees. And my fiberglass bass rod as well, but not the stiff Graphite one.

Why do I need that, I can just build a lighter Rod!!! I lift enough weight in my everyday job. When I am fishing I want it to be easy, at least physically.

I am looking at either it or a sage TXL. I understand the point about the ERNs but the sage rods will cast the 0wt lines that they make quite efficiently. And my interest is in a 1.8oz or less rod, more than the weight of the line I am casting. I will find a line it will cast once I get the rod built. If I could make a 2 oz 8' 8wt with the power then I would likely be all over it too. I do h

For me it is simple preference, and most of all, challenge. The challenge of catching the biggest fish possible on the smallest/lightest rod possible. Do I need it? Absolutely not, it is underkill in hunting terms, to say the least. I saw one, and I liked it. Most of my flies for bream will be too large for it but I will get more tackle and adjust. I catch very few trout under a 3/4 pound a

I tried to search for it but couldn't get any results. Who makes 0 or 00 wt. rod blanks other than Sage. I know there is at least one other company but cannot remember who it is and don't feel like going through every sponsors web site to find it. I think I am finally going to get to build the 0 wt rod I have been wanting and want to weigh all of my options before ordering a blank. I have pla

Only real issues I had with it were the unfitting butt cap, the bubbles and the thread gaps. All but the butt cap are to be expected on a production rod. But that cap and grip should have been sanded to fit flush against each other. 150 is steep for that though. I figured about 50-80.00, I would expect better for 150.

71. Re: sage txl
there is a recent thread that answers this. Sage uses 209 as primary and 5278 for trim according to a member who wrapped for them.

I agree with Tom, Of course he knows way more than me. But, On the price is not necessarily the issue point, I have found that the price of the blank is not really relevant. I have an 8' 3 wt that was sold as a four, has an ERN of about 3.2 according to my sketchy measurements, casts well between 35 and 60 feet and has a mod-fast action, best part, the rod weighs 2.3 ounces and I paid 23 dollar

I am quite sure it is, but priorities have to remain here at least for the time being. Was just a quick thought, honestly I figured it wouldn't get answered, thanks. I will make it to one eventually.

Hey Tom, Why not try to talk some of the vendors into doing a sale for board members and subscribers only??? Maybe just for orders recieved during the expo. Even if it were just for the rodmaker subscribers. I have not subscribed yet but I will eventually and it would be a great deal for the subscribers and good PR for the dealers as well. NC is a long way from me and a lot further for some,

You could get the 8 foot blank and mount your reel seat 1" back from the butt end of the blank and you would have an 8'1" rod. An inch will make very little difference in the rods performance, and I mount most of my seats a half to an inch back. They all work great. A heavier action rod (like 4 and up) I would not do that but with a 0 or 1 wt. you are not likely to have to put the f

The binding I had was between the first and second guide from the butt, after that no problems, it seems like there was just too much distance between the two. Also it was with a 3 weight line never had any problems with a 5 and up. Sorry, I should have added that. If it is for yourself, do it the way you like it. My brother in law built himself an 8 foot 3 wt fly rod with only five guides an

78. Re: Masking Tape
Best to use the best and usually the most expensive masking tape. It pays for its self. I am notorious for getting the cheapest I can get by with when it comes to consumables, but that is one area where it does not pay.

You can get away with as few as 8, and it will cast well. But when your line is wet it will have a tendency to bind around the rod. A lot of factory 9' rods only have 8 or 9.

I have a few black frame stainless inserts off a shakespeare rod. Email me if you think they will work and I can send them to you. Not sure if I have a size 7 but will check.

Even if I needed the money I don't think I could accept payment for it if my out of pocket cost was covered. Yes I am religious and I believe that I would be rightfully repaid in the end. Some would do things differently but that is their cross to bear. The rod had great sentimental value to the guy and it will probably maintain that value to whoever it is passed down too. If they had not pai

Check Out Johnnyspond.com they are on the left here (a sponsor). or Mudhole.com also a sponsor. The size and length of the grip are in my oppinion preference on your part. any length you like. As mentioned above Swampland is also a very good source from what I have heard but I have not used them personally. Mudhole has very quick shipping but shipping can be a little high, johnnyspond ships

You Know, For me it depends on the purpose of the rod. I like my 4wt and below fly rods to be light as a feather. I just built an 8'6" 4wt that came in at 2.42 ounces. However I like for a 6wt and above to be decorated up a little. Heavier action rods are generally not going to be very light regardless what you do but on a light action rod I can feel a difference of even 1/10 of an ounc

If you have time hang it by the tip top for about a week in a warm spot (around 80 degrees). You could use a small space heater or something. I have a couple that have done that and this has fixed them.

Sold American, that is what I am looking for. Thanks Eugene. Everything you mentioned is what I am after. The reason I don't like a 9' rod is that it tires me out. Usually when I go up there to fish I fish all day. Therefore a heavy long rod gets tiring. and the long rod seems to make shorter casts more difficult.

Tru Oil!! Way tougher finish, you can also use perma gloss on real seats which would probably be the best all around finish, to give you the best of both worlds. Tru oil would bring out the colors in the wood best though, in my opinion at least.

Rog, Thanks. 6-10LB test rated? I have found a few from pacific bay that would fall into that category or 8-12 that are 7'6" I could deal with that without having to stretch it. A little heavier than I wanted but it would balance well at that length. Also would a fast or mod/fast work best?
