For anyone not wanting to go to the @#$%& site, John can be reached at jksanglersroost@aol.com or 716-565-9838. Anything you see on an @#$%& he sells direct and carries a lot more than is on there. If you are looking for an item give him a call, he probably has it. He is easiest to rea

I have been going to john at anglers roost for a while. In fact he was the main one that I made reference too in the thread about whether we could mention non sponsors on the board. Good fella. Good parts, very reasonable prices. Glad I can talk about him now!

We have tons of brow recluse spiders here in arkansas, so many that you have to pull your sheets off your bed every night before crawling in just to make sure there are none in there. Bad part is that you will not feel it when bitten, just two days later when the infection has long since set in, then they often have to cut a crater in your skin around the bite to stop the spread of the poison.

Lightly sand it with 400 or greater grit sandpaper, then try either some neutral shoe polish or birchwood casey gun stock wax. The gunstock wax will soak in and take about ten coats but that's what u want. This has worked for me depending on how bad the cork is. If it is rotted through there is no way to recover it. The shoe polish will protect it and fill in gaps but has to be redone every 8

A struble size 16 should work. Your butt is .255 and the size 16 is.250 and the next size up is .266 which will be a little large, and .233 will be a little small most likely. I am not sure how the taper is on a 000 but I believe this should be safe. you will be 10 inches up from the butt.

Well, Just an update, I received my order and she through in an extra stripper guide that was a little different than the one I had ordered because she thought maybe I wouldn't be happy with the one I ordered and also a couple extra guides, and I received the order yesterday on top of that. I am very happy with her service!

I see what u are saying tom, I thought he was wanting glass butt couldn't find it. Oversleeves are almost always better when possible from what I have seen.

Drop me an email. If you can measure the diameter at the break of the piece you need, I can probably mail you a piece of glass rod off a Bn'M crappie rod, Usually works good for me.

Yeah, I considered a cork insert and was settled on it until I saw a nice black ash burl seat up close, Now I just gotta have it. If it is a little heavy this time, Oh well it will be on the right end anyway.

No problem. I just ordered a TXL 00wt blank and everything to set it up. What kind of grip and seat are you using? Or do you turn your own grips? I don't have the equipment to turn them so I went with an REC flor grade cigar style grip because it is not like most cigar style grips, it looks like a cross between a cigar grip and a half wells or a cigar grip with a flared butt section and look

use a #6 casting guide if you want double foot, otherwise pick out a concept style guide or spinning guide. Not sure who keeps them I could probably have found a black one but I had to go with a 7 or 8 because I wanted either a gold frame or gold ring. Check with bingham enterprises or mud hole or Custom Tackle. Nowhere I checked had them in stock in gold, and this was on Monday. I found the

I know where you are coming from with limited funds, but the unfortunate thing about building rods is that there is always cost involved and it seems the costs get higher the deeper we get into this hobby. But it's like crack, we just gotta have it. I couldn't tell you the first thing about weaving and the information you get from this thread will be helpful for me as well. I have only built o

Rods should be shipped in a PVC tube, it only costs another 3 or 4 dollars to ship it and those triangular boxes always get folded. I got a 6'6" wright and mcgill once and it just happened to be flexible enough to withstand the bend but when I saw the box I came unglued! Never happen again, I won't order a blank from someone who ships in one of those boxes, most reputable dealers won't in

48. Re: guide sizing
I have a 3 wt that has 3 2/0 guides 4 1/0, a 1 and a #8 stripper and it casts beautifully. What tom said about recovery and reaction time is true. With a 2 wt I would go with the smallest guides I could get. I am building a 00 with 2/0 and 1/0 SF guides and probably a #8 single foot stripper.

Drop me an email, I slammed an end of a middle section in the truck door a while back and it broke just below the connection point. Don't have time right now to type it all out but I will when I get home tonight.

Tom, You are welcome to close/delete this thread. I know it is your site and I don't have to tell you that. But, I did not open it with the intention to get anyone started bashing a sponsor or anyone else for that matter. I apologize for opening this can of worms, it was definitely not my intention. I expected a couple comments advising me to call but other than that I just hoped they would s

Same here armand, she even threw in an extra guide because she didn't have the exact size of the one I ordered and wanted me to have one I was happy with. I haven't received my order yet but she went out of her way to help me get what I wanted.
By the way Tom, I have internet at work but it is extremely loud and usually pointless to try to talk on the phone. Therefore on work days I try to s

Just use single foot wire guides and one #8 single foot stripper guide. If this system will work with 1-5 weight rods then it will definitely work with an 8. Your guides weigh very little and the thread as well for that matter, if you make your wraps as short as possible to cover the guides, the finish can add considerable weight if you put it on too thick, but again, just use PG or varnish and

In the subject of the rod flexing more with the tip on than not, I already suspected this, but don't the guides slightly change the ERN of the rod?? I know I rebuilt my favorite rod a couple weeks ago for the fifth time and( oh yeah, it isn't pretty any more but still functions flawlessly) went from epoxy to PG and what was before a med-fast action is now fast. (also it is a 2.4 oz 8' 3WT that

Epoxy doesn't really bond to the blank and is less flexible than permagloss. What could and very well may happen is after prolonged use the epoxy could lift away from the blank from the stress of the line on the guide foot. Take an old, cheap fishing rod and bend back a guide just a little and you will see that it will crack, if it wasn't wrapped the guide would snap off. Permagloss is better

The kits are certainly sufficient, especially if you are not sure if you will want to do any more rods. But, your basic needs are these: Blank, Reel Seat, Cork grip ( I would buy a preformed grip if this is your first build) a set of guides, thread, rod wrapping finish (whichever type you like) and a tip top guide of course, some guide sets come with a tip top but most do not because of the dif
