I've just completed the handle on the 3 piece "Sneaky Pete". Blue dyed local hardwood. Split reargrip, no foregrip, downlocking size 16 Fuji "skeleton" seat (cut down DPSM 16). Black dyed 3/4" turned hardwood buttcap with thin aluminium trim ring. Hope to get a picture up soon, as soon as I finish it up. I'm gonna do a tinted epoxy "bump" transition from blank to seat.
Does anyone work their split grips to a certain ratio. for an aesthetic look? I have 1.5 inches behind the reel seat, and 2.25 inches on the rear section for a ratio of 1:2 with the butt cap on. Total rear section is 7.5 inches from the base of the seat. 2.75 inches of blank b/w the splits. To me it looks cool as heck, and proportionately balanced. I can't help but sigh at some of the ones on the photo page that are WAY different. Horses for courses though. I'm not knocking anybody else's work. Re: Split grips

Only thing I like to do with mine is have a bit more behind the reel seat. If it is too short, then there is not handle for my hand. Re: Split grips

That's the first thing you have to get right. Take a measure and see how much you need behind the seat when you hold the rod as if you were fishing. I doubt you'd need more than 2 inches, unless you have real hams.
Have had to make some adjustments to my dimensions in order to balance the rod. It's tip heavy right now. Making up some stainless steel discs to fit the buttcap. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
