John Channer`s and Michael Blomme`s comments are 100% correct. Silk has no stretch and nylon does. Silk will go transparent without CP which is cool because the silk will appear that it melts into the blank. Silk is the strongest natural fiber in the world and if properly twisted, it will be stronger than nylon. The bamboo rod builders have always been our largest market but many rod builders hav

Jim, Rice 8054 light blue should work fine. I believe The Nerbs have this or can get it for you. Also FishHawk has a variegated metallic SP3, Light blue/silver which will be a great accent color.

Jeff, Check out the FishHawk SP3 Light Blue/Silver Variegated metallic. It will be a great thread to consider for the "Tarheels Rod"! Go Heels! Robbie UNC Class of 91'

Joe, This idea may work but I have never tried it. Others might chime in on this who have had experience modifying the CP. We do get quite a few requests for a Glow in the dark thread so I hope this materials works. I will keep you informed.

We do have a luminous metallic in five colors but it will not hold it`s charge very well. The green seems to work the best and at best it lasts for 30 minutes. We are working on a new glow in the dark thread which I think will work better. Initial tests look great! It is white and uses polypropylene as the core material. There is no silicone used so CP will not be required. I will have this threa

Harry...it was a true pleasure to meet you and Bob. You both are true legends in the craft and we are fortunate that you chosen to share your talents via The Ozark Rod Makers School. As a thread salesman, I would starve if I had to sell thread to cane guys but the cane rod is my absolute favorite. I love to fish with it and I love how the silk thread just melts into the blank. It only seems prop

Gary, We offer both...variegated threads where the color changes every few inches and we also offer the "Old School" classic twists. Some examples are nylon twists, metallic twists, and our new silk/metallic twist.

I want to offer thanks to all who stopped by the FishHawk Threads booth this past weekend and to those who supported our distributors with thread purchases. It was great to be able to associate a name with the artist`s face. We introduced three new threads this weekend...two were hits (Reflections and Silk Sparkle) and one was not (Variegated Silk). The Expo proved to be the best venue to offer

Bob is correct...Silk is one of the strongest natural fibers in the world and is a great thread for rod builders on all blanks. It is mostly used on bamboo but it can be used on all blanks. It was great to see rod builders wrapping silk on graphite blanks at the Expo in HP! Is it stronger than size A nylon? It certainly can be but it depends on how the nylon is made. Silk does not stretch and ny

Buzz, It is going to be the same thickness and feel of our metallic. It will, however, have more of a high tech look.

We will be introducing new threads at the International Rod Builders Expo. 1) Reflection thread. This thread is made in the same manner as our metallic. We start with a nylon core and wrap the core with rice paper. Instead of top coating with metallic film, we use an iridescent film. This film provides an optical phenomenon in which the hue changes with the angle from a surface which is viewed.

We are more than happy to replace or refund for any thread which is bad or does not meet customer satisfaction for any reason. Our goal is to produce a nylon thread which is fuzzy free, lays flat, and can be tightly packed. Our FishHawk brand of nylon was produced strictly for rod builders so it is very important to me that everyone is happy with the performance of the thread. If not, then it wil

Is there a possible need or use for a water soluble thread. This thread would provide temporary structural integrity and then dissolve with water. It is a wash away thread. Many Thanks, Robbie Smith FishHawk Threads

Billy, I have never seen this thread wrapped on a rod but we have sold some and we have sent some out for testing. I would suspect that you would get equal spacing between the black and metallic since it is a twist of two different threads...50% of each. The old school classic twist was actually made of three threads so you could have not achieved an equal ratio of black and color. Our thought wi

We have posted a new thread on the photo page. It is a metallic twist in gold/black and silver/black. We have sent some of this out for evaluation and have received some positive feedback but I want to hear some more thoughts before we put it on the shelves.

There are also several variations of the rainbow but your photos were helpful in determining the correct thread. ***I guess your wife is very support

It was definitely a rubber material and somewhat soft but dense if that makes any sense. The rubber handle did not seem like it would lose its shape over time. I do a lot of coastal kayak fishing and I liked the non slip grip they offered. The rod was well balanced and felt great. When it comes to rods, I have always been a traditionalist and most of my handles are made of cork so this rod had a

I spent a lot of time in their booth at ICAST. The handles are awesome and very comfortable. I would have brought one of these rods home with me if I had more room in my crate! They were offered in red and blue. The comfort of the handles was their big selling point.

This lake is very deep and very clear which is not typical of SC lakes. I would try a Carolina style worm rig or deep diving crank bait off a point. There is not a lot of structure or vegetation but you can look for baitfish hanging around a sandy flat which might support a colony of mussels. If he finds this, look for the drop off and fish it hard!

The J Metallic Thread is a Japanese made thread and is offered to the market by Robison and Anton. Our Metallic thread is also made in Japan. Japan is famous for making the best metallics in the world. FishHawk Metallic is "SN Quality" which is the designation for Japan`s finest thread. I will be happy to send you a sample of our metallic so you can form your own opinion. Many Thanks

Your question is very interesting so I will take it a step further. Do you guys see the need to continue to produce an Opaque style thread? OEM`s do not ask for it. It costs about the same to produce but it tends to sit on the shelf longer than regular thread which does increase cost. Any feedback will be appreciated. Robbie

James, NCP or Opaque thread has a bit of a dull finish whereas regular nylon has a bright finish. Some builders want to use CP to perserve the brightness of the color when they use regular nylon thread. Opaque threads are treated with chalk so no light can pass through the nylon thread and the dye is not affected. The chalk gives the thread a duller appearance. Regular nylon thread is translus

Wrapping a cue stick is the same concept as wrapping a rod except the thread is heavier such as size D, E, or EE. We do not produce anything over size D but we have plenty of E and EE thread in stock. This thread has not been treated with silicone so it will accept your finish. It was designed to produce cue sticks and horse saddles. Please let me know color choices and we will be happy to direct

Don, FishHawk offers silk in A and 3/0, and #245 green should be a nice option for your needs. Billy V`s suggestion of Angler`s Workshop as a potential source is a great option since they carry the entire FishHawk line of threads. Robbie

I know this is a bit early, but FishHawk Threads will launch a new line of variegated 3/0 silk thread at the 2009 Rod Expo in High Point. We hope this will come as good news to the bamboo rod builders who have had an extremely difficult time finding the pre WWII Jasper silk. There will be a variety of different colors. We are also working on metallic yarns and heavy embellishment threads for tho

Steven, NCP or Opaque is a nylon thread. Chalk is added to the thread before it is dyed so no light can pass through it. Opaque basically means that no light can pass through the thread. The chalk gives the thread a dull look. A basic nylon thread does not include chalk. This thread actually looks tranluscent if you hold a light under the thread. As a result, light can affect the dye over time
