I use Flex Coat Lite formula. It does take a while longer to cure. I usually apply it after dinner. I stay with it awhile turning by hand for the first hour then put in the dryer making sure it is well secured. I check on it before bed and it is in good shape when I wake up inthe morning. I learned to check the brush I use and not the wraps. The brush may have a little stickyness to it but just

My basement shop is quite cool, it drops down to 62 degrees because we kep the house pretty cool. I pre heat my epoxies in hot water/ two half full coffee mugs of water in the micro wave for a minute & a half. I then set the bottles of epoxie in the mugs for a few minutes until they are around body temp. I have not had a problem yet this winter. (Knock on wood)

814. Re: rod color
Jim,
I saw on a DVD a way to change the rod color, and I have never tried this so some one more experience please chime in.
I "think" you can mix up two part epoxy and mix the color pigment in the mixture adding a little pigment as needed. Then brush it onto the blank and then with a latex glove on your hand spread it as evenly as you can. You would then put it in your rod dryer.

what is the best way to remove a peel & stick decal with CP on top? I am trying some Micro Set. I have coated it several times inthe last 30 minutes and it does not appear to be doing any good.
Thanks,
Bill

818. Re: handle repair
Randy,
If you have any cork dust you can mix some with Elmer`s glue and work it into the pitted area. If you do not have cork dust you can bu it from some of the fine sponsors to the left, it is called cork filler. Just fill the pits, sand it down, then use a sealer. The problem with this is sooner or later the filler will work out too.

820. Re: power wrapper
Brian,
I don`t have a power wrapper yet. I am planning on getting one this winter sometime. I set my shop up so i have a 2` X 10` center work island and if needed, I think if I just went to the other side of the work island it would be reversed. If you have room in your shop you might try this set up.

821. Re: shellac on cork
Andy,
I used two part epoxy one time. I was concerned about it being slippery when wet but it was pointed out when fishing with a spining rod you actually hang on to the reel leg. it came out looking very nice and glossy, although, I like the look of Tru oil the best.

matt,
I have three dryer motors and they barely get above room temp. I would be very concerned about one that gets too hot to touch

I thought of buying one also. I am going to the expo and thought I would see it happen in person because I can forsee the same thing. I don`t build that many rods that I need one, it`s just that I want one.

827. Re: Masking Tape
It almost sounds like your blanks have been contaminated. Have you been using spray lubricants in the area? I always wipe mine down with denatured alcohol before doing anything. My rod room is adjacent to my basement work shop and who knows all of the contminates in the air.
Good luck,
Bill

I buy mostly from Mudhole or Janns` Netcraft. I have had excellent service through both. Karry at Batson Enterprise seems to always go out of his way on this site and I need to try them, I just never had. I am a small user and it seems easier to stay where I am. I once bought from an @#$%& site but,,,,,,,who knows what I actually recieved.

Yeah I know to clean the filter outside. The last time i tried doing it in the kitchen. If it wasn`t for my wife`s yelling and screaming I might never had found her. I couldn`t see her for the dust.
Man, was she mad.

I use a 20 inch box fan with a GOOD filter in front of it. It seems to help a lot. I do not have it on when using epoxies, only when I am sanding and building. It does not take long for the filter to get dirty.

Walt,
I think you are in a great situation! It is no lose for you unless you count your labor. What a great way for you to be able to bring some joy into some ones life. I would do my best work ever on this rod. It will be a sad time for you and the family at the time you present it to them. There will be tears of joy for them and maybe even tears of sadness for you. or maybe vice versa. Ju

WOW!!, I never knew we could do gobs, globs and other source of measurements. I always use a 1/4 teaspoon and scrape the top off for equal measurements. After messing some guide wraps earlier in life I thought everything should be carefully measured.
Sometime I may try mixing just a ``tad`` and see how that works.

Fred,
Thanks for the tip on the de-natured alcohol. i use it only after applying epoxie, so i naturally am through handling the thread. My question to you is, Will it hurt down the road or is it OK after washing hands?
Also, with the mention of blue painters tape, is it any different than masking tape as far as building real seat arbors?

I just bought one from Basas Pro Shops. it holds 24 rods is circular, only 14`` of floor space and the rod butts are a 1 1/2'' off the floor. I am very satisfied with it.

Mike,
i should have made myself clearer. Yes, i am talking fresh water. He fishes mostly walleye and bass.
The s.f. guide seem to have a longer foot area so I sort of felt that it would make no difference but I was not able to back it up with any other logical explanations. i am not sure if I have ever saw s.f. on the racks of sporting good stores.
