A simpler solution is to remove the belt when hand wrapping. I have an Alps power wrapper, which I believe is the same as the Pac Bay. I tighten one roller support to keep enough tension on the blank to hold it in place. The spring loaded roller stands are useless. Get the stands without springs. Simply push down on one then tighten the locknut. A little trial and error will give the correct ten

I usually put on a second coat the next day. But, I have done it after about four hours. It will depend on the ambient temp. The cooler your space temp, the longer you will have to wait. That is using Threadmaster Lite.

I use a free standing Honeywell HEPA filter for at least 24 hours before any epoxy work. I turn it and the ceiling fan off during the work and cure time.

I've done red over red/black, and black over red/black. Both produce a subtle holo effect. Nice, if you don't want something flashy. Black over red/silver, and red over black/silver were both nice, but not at all subtle. Red over black/gold was maybe my favorite. Haven't tried black over red/gold.

Just tried one of these out. Very easy to install. In stead of using boiling water, I used steam. Got the teapot whistling, and simply rotated the blank with skin in place and slowly moved the blank over the steam stream. My question is, can you apply finish epoxy directly to the skin? I will be applying decals.

I've run several searches, and can't seem to find any results. Have a request for quote for a rod suitable for the A-Rig. Casting rod, 7'6", heavy or extra-heavy power, fast action, spiral wrapped, split grip are the customer's ideas. Will be saddled with a Shimano Conquest, spooled with 65lb braid. The rigs he uses in in the 2 to 2.5oz range. My owns thoughts are a mod-fast action blank

I measure by weight; with a digital scale, which is dead on accurate at the bottom end of the scale, and does not show any measurable inaccuracy unril it gets near 9000 grains; the top end of the scale. I had this unit tested by a friend; who is a certified metrologist. And, that is not a guy who makes guesses about the weather. I had the three varieties of epoxy i use tested for specific grav

I drove 12 hours to get there. I would not drive to the west coast to do so. And, there's a reason 70% of rod builders live east of the Mississippi. :

A cheap synchronous AC motor will, by nature, start randomly in either direction. The simple explanantiom is which ever half of the current sine wave hits first will determine direction. If you want it to start in a particular direction, give it spin, by hand, in the desired direction, while flipping the switch. Neither a loose motor mount nor a different belt will have any affect on starting

This was my first Expo. It will not be my last. Met a lot of good people, made some new friends and picked up some tips and tricks. Billy, you are a hoot. Glad to have met you, and hope to see you again, even if you did try to throw me out of the restaurant. I'm ready for the next Expo. Hat's off to Mr Kirkman. This was well worth the time and money, in my opinion.

I have a whole buch of Daiwa casting reels, about an equal mix of US and JDM reels, so I guess you could call me a Daiwa fan. I have two with the t-wing. I do not see any benefit from the extra moving parts. They don't cast light weights any better. The don't pitch any better. And, as far as extra casting distance goes; you can't prove it by me.

Tom, that was the first thing I looked for. Finding a two piece glass blank with CCS data was what prompted me to try the work around using the lure weight calcs. I did not want to have to keep ordering blank until I found something suitable. I really have no use for a handful of two piece glass blanks. I think I'm going to execute Plan B.

Tom, will Vol10, issue4 be available at the expo? If so, I will buy one there. I think I should explain what I'm trying to do. My brother wants a 7', 5wt, two-piece, fiberglass fly rod. I've only found a couple of examples, and they way too expensive for him. It was suggested to me to get an UL fiberglass blank intended to be a spinning rod. Sounded reasonable to me. The blank doesn't care

Where do I find this Unversal Rod Rating System? I have a link to the chart from NFC, but has nothing about lure weights.

Thanks, Tom. I get it. The system is meant to provide a repeatable means to make measurements to be used for comparison purposes. Juat thought the equations would provide some usefull information.

I have my CCS setup ready to go, and I've read all the material about four times. I believe I get it, even though a fly rod is the last thing I will be building. I built one for a gjft and one for my brother. Won't likely build another for some time, so a lot of the numbers are having little meaning for me, except for comparison purposes, that is. Which is the real point of the system. Comparison

The rod supports with the spring loaded upper arm are useless on the smaller diameter sections of the blank.

I mostly fish for bass, but do go after walleye, brown trout, and crappie. When Kevin first proposed this blank to me, my first thought was a bait rod. I make several trips to the White River every year chasing brown trout. And several more trips to ths Tennessee River for smallmouth. We drift live bait for both species. I said to myself, self, this may be just the ticket for those trips, and for

Thanks guys. Interesting info, since I have one on the way. I ordered two NFC blanks during Get Bit's sale. They had one of the two, but not the other. Got a call from Kevin, the owner, and ended up picking this blank to replace the out of stock blank I originally ordered. By the way, hat's off to Kevin and Get Bit for superior customer service. Quite the polite young man. So, I got a blank

Or blank? Or, more specifically, what would such a blank be good for? I thought I posted this earlier. Maybe the smart alec way I phrased the question annoyed somebody. My apologies, if that is the case.

Thanks again, Norman. You gave me the answer i was looking for. I did not want a medium power rod that fished like a heavy, and you addressed that perfectly. I'm planning to attend the Expo, for the first time. Looking forward to putting some faces to the names of people from whom I have received such excellent advice. Hope to see you there.

I'm considering a Point Blank build for myself. How do the ratings compare to reality? I know a St Croix MH is a different animal than, say, a Loomis MH. Just using those examples as a basis for comparison. I don't pay much attention to power ratings, knowing the arbitrary nature of such ratings. Looking at the PB701MF and PB701MHF. Which one would be closest to the the classic 1/4-3/4oz, 10
