I found them. I didn't look way over in the right place. I just ordered 4 of them and a few other blanks I can't get anywhere else. The cork for the grip is on one of Andy Dear's mandrels curing as I write this, the reelseat is in the mail, I hope.

Paul, I've caught big, well, up to 18 lb. Channel Catfish, up to 7 1/4 Largemouth, and an 11 lb.Striper from Smith Lake all on a spinning rod I made from this blank 8 or 10 years ago and still fish. Awsome #4 Stren rod for bigger fish (live bait). Awsome #2 Stren rod for Bluegill & Crappie.

Thanks, Paul and Tom. The blank I intend for this weighs 2.6 ounces, is 11 1/2 ft. 2pc. and is IM6 graphite. The article in vol.6 #6 of Rodmaker is just the ticket. I'll put the components together and see which configuration balances out, hopefully with my Pfleuger 1594RC Medalist with 6 or 7wt.DTF line. This blank has been discontinued by Cabela's as of the '07 catalog. They no longer carry the

Paul, read this essay, please. It will say it better than I can. Reed curry's essay "Wetfly - The forgotten taper" at overmywaders.com refutes Adam Brown's statement. except for the phrases"slower action bamboo" and "older methods of swinging wet flies". Unfortunately, the rest of his comment falls into marketing, (If it ain't this years model, it aint no good, thr

Thanks for "all" the help? A 'wetfly' rod is indeed a long slow action fly rod designed to keep streamers & wet flies in the water column longer and not dried out every cast by high line speed. So, my intention to build a long slow action fly rod is being met with disdain?, dispute over the validity of the concept? I'm sorry, I never thought to find this kind of response to a rodbui

I wrap all the left guide feet, turn the rod around and wrap the 'other' left feet to finish wrapping the guides. I get better results wrapping in only one direction.

I've been searching for information on wetfly action rods and find little except Reed Curry's articles which got me interested in the first place. Has anyone built a wetfly rod and which blank, components, etc. did you use? How does it fish? Thanks.

You could try ThreadMaster Lite. I believe you will be pleased with TML.

Simon, even though weight matters on a 2wt. I put the guides where static distribution indicates. Since you only need 1 1/2 to 2 times the diameter of the female joint/ferrule I believe the extra weight is negligible. However, if a guide is in the way of the female ferrule or right up against it on the male section I then either move it onto the female ferrule or towards the butt so it is aprox

I use the 1in. spools of automotive wet/dry sandpaper from 80 grit to 400 grit. For a moderate cost you have a years supply, maybe longer.

Try a Moderate or moderate-fast 7ft. 3wt. I've built several fly blanks into spinning rods. 6'6'' 2wt.s up to 9ft. 6wt. The moderate action really protects light lines and tippets. With Alconite or better guides you can have an incomparable ultra-light spinning rod.

If you want a truely transparent wrap use Pearsalls Gossamer silk thread, (6/0). Gudebrod's silk is 2/0. I haven't tried ThreadMaster on a transparent wrap yet, but I get a truely clear result with Perma-Gloss. Ralph

108. Re: Finish help
After it dries completely go over it with tack cloth or if you have none with masking tape like it was tack cloth. If this doesn't work, other than doing the wrap over, I don't know. Ralph

If you haven't bought the Reelseat hardware you should look at the nickel silver reelseats and hardware at REC Components at the left. I agree with Rodger about Andy's DVD. He saved me more than the price of the DVD in thrown-away mistakes the first week I had it. I like cork & 2 rings and cap & ring seats for fly rods 3wt. and lighter. I also like wood & cork insearts, both. Ralph

There is a formula to indicate the approximate maximum castind weight of a fly blank if wrapped as a spinning or casting rod. Use the line wt. rating, for example an 8 wt. rod/blank = 8/16 = 1/2 ounce max casting weight. 8 as the numerator and 16 as the denominator. a 4wt. blank = 4/16 = 1/4 ounce Max casting wt. This is approximate not exact but it'll put you in the ballpark. Do a search, I got

I just finished a 7' 3wt. and used Fuji Alconite CLAG guides #8 butt, #7, and #6's to and wrapped for the tip. I used the Static Distribution Test to place the guides. This is a very sweet flyrod to cast. The #6 guides pass my loop to loop line/leader connection well enough. Ralph

I break the shine of a glossy blank with ex-fine ScotchBrite and do nothing but clean a matte blank. I clean any/all blanks and only break the shine under grips & reelseats. Ralph

I've used single foot ceramics (Alconite) for a tip top on a number of fly rods and a few ultralight spinning rods. Except for some funny looks I've had no problems with them. One thing, always use a Forhan Locking Wrap on single foot guides, especially as a tip top. Ralph

Who would monitor this chat room? Tom's plate is more than full. This is as close to a chatroom on Rodbuilding.org as I need/want to get. IMO, this addition would be no improvement. Ralph

I don't have a set of 'Dream Reamers' yet but the ones thet I've made here at home that I chuck into a drill I use at a pretty low rpm. I mean about 100 - 180 rpm. I keep that drill set at about or a little bit less than 1/4 speed and it runs at 750 rpm max. I had a reamer come apart at full speed a while back. From all I've heard those are the best commercial reamers for sale for rodbuilding. R
