Left Hand casting reel grip (no switching hands between casting and reeling). Getting the sleeve to shape properly was a bear but I eventually got it.

This is a rough first draft but it works and saves a lot of shaping time especially since I don't have a lathe.

Playing around with waterslides. CP'ing the decal edges seems to help make them less visible under the epoxy. Rounding the corners of the decal seems to help too.

I've still got the first running guide offset so the snake isn't pulling full duty as a bumper on this rod. I've gotta check castability, durability, and side loads before I'm fully confident in using the snake with all 180s.

I've built a bunch of first rods for young nephews and have found that an underspin reel is easier for them to handle and learn on than the old standard "button on top" closed face reels. Another advantage is that they can upgrade to a regular spinning reel later on. Some advice I've found useful is to not build a childs rod in a particular childish theme such as some cartoon characte

I like the Papilio white paper decals, haven't tried the vinyl yet though.
I use the same procedure that Mike Danek outlines above.
I print on plain paper first to make sure I get a good fit.

I used Kevlar thread on a military themed rod and it's extreamly hard to work with; it's slick and just getting the wrap started is difficult. There is no stretch so your tie off could be tough too. The thread will leave lots of little fuzzies to stick up through your first coat but they're not too hard to clean up for the second coat. The colors on the thread I used, yellow and black, were bl

By tying to the tip you flex the blank in it's natural curve. Then you position the guides so that a line, with just enough tension to keep it taut, passes through the guides forming angles that match the blank curve as closely as possible. This causes the line tension from the force of a fighting fish to pull on each of the guides in a way that pulls the blank along its natural curve and you e

> In your example "A" is collecting return postage on every blank sends out.
The vendor would estimate his cost of return shipping as a percentage of sales; example, for every 100 blanks shipped they may expect 5 to be returned for whatever reason... with an estimated return shipping of $20 per blank, 5 * $20 = $100 in total estimated return shipping costs... divide that by the 1

>I don't think that I understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying that the buyer can't rely on the sellers
>advertised price plus a one time shipping and handling charge but must factor in all possible future expenses
>should the item be defective? I guess that you are implying that the buyer is responsible for the cost of fixing
>any junk that the seller sends to him.

The buyer pays for it regardless of whether it's paid by the buyer on an as-needed basis or if the charge is covered by the seller and built into the cost of every blank they sell. When making a purchase you need to compare more than just the line item cost.

I've been putting Lumiseal coats on a set of four fly rods and thinking I needed something between the micro brushes and my favorite spatula. I took a disposable brush that was hardened up and with a few slices of a razor blade made a mini spatula. Works great on those little guides and the "in-between" guides too.

59. Re: Help
My favorite crappie rod is a drop-section fly blank but a less costly alternative, especially if your kids are tough on the rods, would be the lightest weight fiberglass blank you can find; the soft action makes it easier to flip light jigs with a side cast. If you want a faster action then the Mudhole unsanded blanks will work well enough.
I've built quite a few kids rods and would highly re
