I'm not likeing the cuts that I'm getting from my bandsaw. The 14 tooth 1/8 inch blade doesn't want to cut straigt enough to make a celtic knot. I tried one knot using the eyeball method and a second knot using the supplied miter fence, neither were satisfactory. The sloppy fit between the fence and the slot in the table, the blade not tracking as straight as I think it should (could be improper

Billy,
If your gatherings were larger they couldn't possibly be as good as they are now. Each participant gets personal attention from you and the guys that sh

In my opinion, thread isn't the place to cut corners to save $ or to save making an order. Use the thread that has been proven to work. Hundreds of builders before you have experimented with cheap and convenient only to find that most threads aren't either.

Thanks guys,
I've given up on the 11/16 brad point (I don't think there is such a thing) and went with a short 3/4" Irwin Speedbor and an extension. The long 3/8" brad point drill bit was easy, I ordered it from an online store.
Billy you were right; I'm turning a long EVA block in the headstock and chucking the tool in the tailstock. The next time will be my first and I'm nervo

I have an 11/16th inch mandrill and would like to get a long 11/16in brad point drill bit for it. The largest that I can find is 5/8 but it is a short one. Can anyone help me find one?
Thanks,
Don

Dr Bill's "Common Cents System" bends the rod/blank 1/3 its length to find the ERN. Assuming that the rod/blank is 9ft long the deflection to find ERN is 3ft. Sounds simple enough "but" I can always end up confused.
I built a fixture to hold the rod level and another to measure the bend and AA and set about checking some of my rods and blanks. Now my confusion;

Very interesting Tom,
I also hope there will be many informative and stimulating thoughts added to this thread.
Test casting, I usually don't do it. I don't have enough confidence in my casting ability that I could evaluate guide placement with my results. Static testing is how I place my guides.
On my rods, and the hardcore Guys that I build for, sensativity is most important so I use

Tom,
Thanks for the quick response. It is obvious that I'm going to have to get more comfortable with CCS. It's going to be a great tool.
John,
Thanks for bumping me over.

102. Re: Tacky Epoxy
I don't think that I missed the 50/50 mixture proportions as I know it's critical. I use denatured alcohol to thin the flex coat and I'm wondering if somehow that may have caused the mix to come up tacky. Any thoughts?

103. Tacky Epoxy
I epoxied the guides on a rod that I'm building and I have a problem.
I put the guides on with 3 seperate batches of Flex Coat. One batch has failed to harden, it's three days and still tacky. I know of, and thought that I had taken all the precautions about precise mixing but it's too late now. Have any of you had this "sticky" problem? Short of removing the epoxied wraps is there

I'm having difficulty with the thread wraps that attach the reel plate over the tape and onto the rod. When I tension the thread tight enough to firmly hold the reel seat the thread digs into the tape. Ugly voids in the wrap and threads stack on each other are the result.
I have noticed that the tape I'm using (1/8th inch thick) is a lot thicker and is more compressable than tape that I have

107. I need HELP
I have to remove a day old guide wrap and don't know what to do. The Flex Coat has cured to be dry to the touch and not tacky but not fully cured. Is there a way other than picking, scraping, and slicing. I'm afraid that I may ruin hours of work and an expensive blank if I go at the removal without a plan.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Don
